Thumbs up Will A spec stage 3 clutch hold 480 whp?

hey guys, all my mods are in my sig. right now i have a clutchmaster stage 4 and it has been in there for about 10-13,000 miles. It has seen about 15-18 track runs and it already has a warped pressure plate. I was talking to the owner of bwoody the last time I was at the track and he said a spec stage 3 would be good in my car. He said it is a full disk, not a puck like mine. So in theory a full disk will hold up longer then a puck. I just want to find out more about them, and if I might need to go with a stage 4 (pretty sure a spec stage 4 is puck). Or maybe try a clutchmaster again.

My brother has had spec cluthes in alot of his cars and They have all been pretty nice with no problems.
1- 525hp all motor camaro
2- Mildly modded mustang
3- 5.4L swaped mustang, all bolt ons

Never had problems in any of them. But I haven't heard to much about them in our cars.
Thanks guys.

no problem with a spec stage 3 in a 400 rwhp TA. Stage 3 is much more than this car needed and is why the thing still holds super strong after 2 years.

my spec s3 lasted 5k miles on 360hp and slicks. it never sliped, but the spring tines ate up the tob, broke some tines and broke the guide tube on the input shaft bearing.

yeah that is seeming like the problem. I have heard nothing but good things from mostly v8 cars with spec clutches but almost nothing but bad out of spec cluthes in srt's. So i dunno. Anyone else want to chime in?

my 01 R/T running about 250whp had a spec stage 3....it came apart and ripped thought the fuel rail and manifold and burned the car. They've been known to use stock pressure plates that are just repainted

dude don't believe everything that happened to someone else will happen to you. every brand has there freak accidents and possible failures for no good reason. iv'e had my spec s3 for 2yrs. got it when i had well over 300tq. now im pushing 425tq to the wheels. thats around 470 at the flywheel. i regularly give it a good workout( dailydriven )and no problems as of yet. just my 2cents.

I already have a centerforce and am not at all interested in getting another clutch right now, just thought it was good info for someone considering it.

%99 of aftermarket SRT4 clutches use "repainted" "SACHS" stock pressure plates with some kind of cheesy reinforcement wire or band for upping the clampload. Why do you think alot of them miss the mark on advertised ratings and some dont.I had a SPEC S3 six puck that performed flawlessly at 450/450 and changed it out after I went bigger.Way too much "he said/she said" bullshit is passed around these forums and people should only take the advice from people with actual hands on experience with the item in question and take even that advice with a grain of salt.

Tq is what you use to measure clutches.
Hp is what you use to measure penises.

just some fyi...SouthBend Clutches and ACT clutches use modified pressures plates w/HIGHER clamp loads then stock.

right from the manufactures:

SouthBend: 2300lbs of clamping force
ACT: 2800lbs of clamping force

thanks for all the info guys. I think I might take the chance and run the clutch. I know that if I was asking about a clutchmaster stage 4 there would be plenty of freak stuff with shit blowing up just the same amount. Well thanks guys.
