well i searched thru the forum but couldnt find anything that was just like what i had happen. anyway last night i was driving back home, hadnt really driven the car hard all night long. but i slowed down to go over some bumps and hear a clunk sound and seemed like my engine shook some and car learched a little after i took it out of gear. when i tried to put it back into gear i couldnt get it into any gear. so i let the clutch out and pushed back in and got into 2nd. then went to third and was really hard to get into. drove it about 5 more miles shifting pretty bad and got it home. then when i went to let it cool down in neutral the car was dying and pulling forward like it was stuck in gear. so i left it for the night and went out today and it was still doing it for a little bit then it would idle and was in neutral. my shifter felt fine the whole time no sloppiness or anything just normal. so i took it around the block and drove bad for a bit then started acting normal. shifting pretty good little rough but not bad. it would kind of jerk a little going into some gears like it wasnt fully going into gear, especially reverse. but when i got it back home and went to neutral its making a lot of chatter sound when i let out on the clutch. almost sounds like a piece of something is floating around in the tranny, but goes away when you push the clutch in. so any ideas? i really hope its not the clutch cause i want dodge to warranty the tranny. taking it in monday and if its clutch im doin it myself.
car has 27000 miles on it. driving it hard as in racing it alot. i dont do that much. and for mods, bfmic, agp wastegate, short ram intake and needswings cutout dp. boost at 17. havent changed fluid cause i only had it for 6000 miles. the guy at dodge said changing the fluid wouldnt help when i went to get some tranny fluid, but htought about doing it anyway. the car is driving just fine now but with a loud idle chatter.
and its not as loud as the one on the video but it kind of varies getting louder or softer and just sounds like something kinda gettting stuck then releasing. but does go away with clutch pressed. whats the best way to check the flex plate bolts?
The chatter you're talking about sounds a lot like throwout bearing chatter...but flexplate bolts are a possibility too, but considering you've never had the transmission off the car, I wouldn't go in and check that first, since it isn't terribly likely without having pulled the bolts off before.
is it ok to drive around on it as long as its still shifting fine? i just dont wanna get stranded. if its the tob what would have happened? is it held in by a pin like hondas? ive never had this car apart but have changed several clutches on my hondas.
bump again! gonna wait til wednesday to take it to the dealership. dont wanna give them $80 just to say its the clutch and then i have to change it. Does it not seem like its the tranny?
I've been driving mine with the TOB going out on it for about 2 months now...I'm about to go on a 600 mile trip on friday, and I think it's going to hold up fine, but I'm starting to push my luck. I've put ~2500 miles on the car with the TOB making this noise.
ya i think im gonna keep driving it for a while... hopefully it holds up good. clutches are expensive! but what exactly happens to the tob to make all the noise? is the actual bearing coming a part or soemthing else? sounds like its kinda rubbing the pressure plate the whole time
and where is the best place to get a clutch? looked on ebay but not sure which one i want to go with. not wanting full race or anything just a good streetable one that will hold good at 300 hp.
mine has 24k miles, and all stock and babied, My tiburon did this too. But i can here a teen tiny bit of chatter when I am in a drive through, since its closed in, And the sound hits the wall, But if I am in the open, I cant hear it.its very minute. I think its normal.
