Default Stock shifter > Mopar STS with booger bushings

So today I decided to return all of my transmission parts back to stock because I was going to take it in for warranty (rough shifting, cant downshift into 2nd maybe 90% of the time, 3rd gear crunch).

Well I took off the mopar sts and booger bushings and replaced it with the stock shifter. After that I was going to change the tranny oil back to stock (currently have royal purple in there), but I decided to go for a drive first. WOW. I can shift effortlessly in all gears, and I can now downshift into 2nd gear 100% of the time. Maybe I do have some tranny problems and the mopar sts and boogers were magnifying the problems, but so far it feels like my tranny is 100% problem free.

Any of you have a similar experience? Everything definitely feels more "loose" with the stock shifter, but I'm happy that my shifting is now smooth.

after your WGA fiasco I think you should just keep the car stock or turn it in

Why? Because I didn't do it "your way" by running a line from the turbo to the wga? Just so you know, I still have it on PCM controlled and I've been holding 15 psi for over 500 miles now. It's been great.

Isn't it kind of given that the longer the throw the smoother its going to feel? A shorter throw means less mechanical advantage so its a trade off. So whats the point of saying one shifter feels better than the other?

I know that, but I was having more problems with the STS besides the normal rough shifting. I couldn't downshift to 2nd the majority of the time and I would gear a crunch sound when going to 3rd. Not only did putting the stock shifter back in give it the smoother shifting (obviously), but it got rid of the downshifting problems and crunch.

I had very if not identicle probs w/ my BOOMBA sts. Just today I read the clutch pedal adjust How-To and I was totally amazed at how much easier shifting is with my clutch pedal raised.

ps BOOMBA = 60% reduction twice that of mopar sts

Yep, did it many times and never fixed the problem. Tried basically every position. I think my tranny is just starting to screw up so the STS just magnified the problem. But right now it feels pretty good with the stock shifter.

Never been a big fan of sts's. Always seemed harder to put into gears, find gears, and on top of that you have to adjust to a new shorter throw. I'm not taking anything away from them but I just havent been a big fan of them. Stock shifter w/ rage-tek shifter bushings FTW!

To the OP it sounds like you have a bad shifter. I highly doubt the shifter is "magnifying" any problems with the shifter. It downshifts fine now, correct? Did you put the booger bushings back in with the stock shifter or did you put back in the stock bushings?

After some new "testing" I think it was the booger bushings causing the problem. This morning I decided to reinstall the booger bushings on the stock shifter this time and the rough gears came back and it was hard to downshift into 2nd gear. So I took them out and put the stock bushings back in and everything was back to being smooth.

You left the shift ball correct? Try it without the shift ball and see how it feels. Im thinking it will not feel any better. And yes im talking about the PB ball.

Yea i figured it could have been the bushings as well. Thats why i was asking if you put them back in. Well if you want some upgraded bushings we have ours. They dont stick like some of the boogers.

Do you have any pics or info on your bushings? I might just try those instead.
