thats really strange. i wonder if it was a "bad batch" or something.

i had zero issues with my stage 4 modular before i overheated it, and it had seen track days on slicks and numerous WOT shifts.

the replacement stage 5 is almost broken in, no issues to report.

its very interesting though, every clutch failure i've ever read about (doesn't matter the brand) has always said that the pieces flew any direction but towards the firewall.

i haven't seen one case where parts entered the passenger area. thats a good thing.

Ya both I heard of said the same thing, no problems, felt great, was the best clutch I had before it happened.

I know of another guy who is running the same clutch he hasnt had any problems. He has the old style though. I dont know if it makes a difference or not. I would think the new style would be better. The old one had problems with the bolts backing out.

when did u get ur clutch? Legion got his in early May the same time I did. Was it around this time. Might be able to narrow down if it was a batch problem or not.

not that i'm aware of. the hex head bolts were too big and didn't let the flywheel sit flush against the flex plate.

i've seen threads for clutches exploding from all the manufacturers. it does happen in some cases.

i wonder if those long bolts that they used to bolt the plate to the flywheel have enough clearance?.....its suppose to be rivets.....who knows what happens in there when the flywheel is moving at 100mph......one lil snag on anything in the housing you will have a blown up clutch......only reason why i mention those bolts cause they cause i vibration issue with my car and lots of others because of the position on the bolt hitting the flexplate made it not sit flush......just a thought in my sick head about the bolts....

p.s hope the dude that was running that clutch didnt have the vibration and mistake it for MM vibration and ran at the track with that horse power with a wobbling clutch....that wouldnt be heathly

Great customer service

Jon @ SBC FTW.

edit: My next clutch after this Stage 5 6-puck will be the SBC Race Series Stage 3.

I've had the same exact thing happen to my stage 4. Sent it back to sbc and they warrentyed it and upgraded it to a stage 5. Still need to get another 200miles for break in on the stage 5.

Was it modular or non modular?

I think that is the issue. I havent heard of anyone blowing a non modular out, burned them up yes, but not exploding.

What flywheels are they using, and what are they rated to?

What I've NEVER heard of, except in this thread is that NON-MODULAR Stage 5 flywheel exploding. (The pics that are posted.) Yes, that's a fidanza flywheel but what about the material that's being used on the clutch disc. Feramic doesn't seem to bite like a cerametallic clutch disc does. That being said, the feramic would heat up more because of the "increased" driveability.

Just my theory but my SAME exact model clutch I had in my car, is this same exact clutch that exploded. Mine was slipping like no other, yet drove great as a DD. I mean great. That 6 puck drove like a full face disc and to me, that's entirely too much "slippage" for a 6 puck. Just couldn't hold at the track.

maybe i'm not experienced with 6 pucks, but my car drives about the same as your car did when i borrowed it back while the 50 was getting installed. you were on the ACT 6 puck at that time...right?
