PT Cruiser GT transmission swap

So even with new tires the torque steer and inability to use all the engine's power is completely hampered with an open differential. The PT Cruiser GT used the same engine as the SRT4 but without a limited slip. I'm trying to find the best value route to go. I would like to ask if anyone has the idea if I should find a used SRT4 transmission with the LSD already in there to put into my cruiser, or find a LSD somewhere and crack my transmission case and have it installed.
So pricing these things out.

ebay price new
QUAIFE Limited Slip Differential US $950.69
Approximately C $1,321.17

ebay used
DODGE NEON SRT-4 OEM MANUAL TRANSMISSION QUAIFE LSD
US $365.00
Approximately C $507.24

Gear ratios for SRT-4 (T850 transmission):
Gear Ratios
1: 3.647:1
2: 2.045:1
3: 1.367:1
4: 0.947:1
5: 0.756:1
Final drive: 3.526:1

Gear ratios for PT GT (Getrag 288S Transmission):
Gear Ratios
1: 3.92
2: 2.21
3: 1.46
4: 1.11
5: 0.88
Final Drive Ratio: 3.29

The engines are the same, the bellhousing is the same but I'm wondering if the axle shafts, and cases will fit into the mounts. Because if I can get a used SRT-4 transmission already with the LSD, I would do that to take advantage of the lower gear ratios.

AFIK, it's far far from a direct swap - you will have some things that need to be customized, like the shifter linkage and mounts.

Is there an LSD option for your AT? you likely have the 604 transmission (4 speed) - in that case, you are, shit out of luck.

Why not find a SRT-4 with a blown motor, or a same year (04-05) Neon and swap the motor, snag a 5 speed and roll out.......

i have the 5 speed.

I almost think that the Getrag Transmission is superior (german ? ) and maybe the SRT-4 people should be swapping out theirs for the one from the cruiser GT

I would keep that Getrag and just up the clutch. Ive heard of them holding close to 600hp easy with those. But I haven't seen any real numbers.

I really wish mine was 5speed. Ive got the autostick....

I learn by doing.....apparently blowing my engine was a good first step...

SRT4 trans does not fit into the pt bay, and axle shaft lengths are different. I suppose with enough work you could fabricate it enough to work, but IMO definitely not worth it. Up grade your existing 5 spd would be the route I would go.

And, based off your posted transmission gear ratio's you would be slower to accelerate with the srt4 trans. Looks like the pt has lower gear ratios to get the heavier car up to speed, then a higher 4th and 5th gear ratio for mpg, thus a higher final drive ratio.

04 Black NSRT4, .020"+ JE 8.5 w/ Manley Rods, balance shafts removed, modded oil pick up, ported head, crower springs, GTX3071r, water cooled Tial wastegate, FIC 1000cc, all -6 lines w/ 1:1 with -6 return line, boomba rail, 225, hard pipes w/ Tial BOV, 3 bar map and tip, DSP intune, full 3"exhaust, front strut bar, ACT with new syncros, Mopar short throw, lowered on Mopar springs

Dyno tuned by Nigel. Went 11.6 @ 124mph at 5200ft

Right. I'm just wondering mainly if the SRT-4 288 transmission Quaife LSD will fit in the Getrag... because the special made one for the Getrag is very expensive

The srt4 transmission was sourced from a European spec Mercedes diesel van back in the day because it was the only trans they had on the shelf that could fit and handle the tq. Now I am not sure if the LSD will fit into the pt 5spd...... I'd assume not, but honestly I do not know.

Myabe I should talk to a Quaife rep and get their opinion on if the LSD does fit in the getrag. if it does that would be awesome.

The LSD from the New Venture Transmission (SRT-4) will not interchange with the Getrag - You will need the LSD for the Getrag from Quaife

I ended up by upgrading to a valeo single piece conversion flywheel but haven't had a job since in order to save up for a limited slip differential.
