I have an 05 also and everytime I shift into reverse it either grings or makes a loud clunking sound. Brought it into Dodge when the problem wasnt as badand they said nothing was wrong with it, well now that its an obvious problem I bring it back and they admit the clutch has gone. Everything was all fine an dandy until they told me they wont fix it because i have 5/32 on the stock tires with 10K miles on them and also because i have the AGP WGA, it bullshit!
Mine is actually easier to put in to gear at WOT, my tranny is starting to loosen up a lot more now, 450km's later. I only get a grind in to 2nd when the car is cold after that everything is fine. I kind of expect a minor grind, my acura rsx along with my talon which I bought both brand new did the same thing for the first 1000 or so km's.
I need to visit this site more often. My car has been in the shop exactly one month today. It was supposed to be done today, but no such luck.
I brought it in last month because I was having a lot of problems with 3rd gear and my clutch was slipping. It would not go into third without using force. Downshifting at higher RPMs would not work at all. Shifting at high rpms would make it grind. And occasionally when it felt like it went in, after letting off the clutch it would pop out. So I bring it to the dealership and after a week or so they finally tell me they will cover it under warranty. They looked through some window I guess we have on our tranny and he told me my clutch was shot after 6500 miles. Instead of replacing it with a stocker, I ordered the CM stage 4, 6 puck with their alluminum flywheel. He had it put together by last friday but it wouldnt shift at all. He worked on it this morning and adjusted some things and he got it to shift but he said anythime boost is applied it pops out of gear. He called me wondering if it was the right clutch for the car, or maybe there is supposed to be an upgraded slave cylinder, or shift fork that comes with the kit. After calling CM, I know I have the right clutch, and I have everything that I need to make it work.
Im not sure what to do here. He said he hadnt heard anything about problems with '05 trannys. Ill have to print this out and show him I guess.
I have a 05 and I grind in 3rd every once in a while I think that I'm still learning the car but you think after 6000 miles it would quit grinding. Whenever I put the Maddog sts w/booger bushings in it help but didn't kill the problem. What about if you put a new clutch and flywheel in does anyone thing this will solve the problem or put new stronger tranny parts and can anybody help me find some because I gonna take it back to the DCX if it doesn't work it selfout.

Tell him that your 3rd gear slider ring is gone. The friction material is worn off and I'm willing to bet that your gates are all hammered to. This is going to be a common problem with all 05's in the future. They changed the way the gears are attached in the case on 05 trannys and it is causing more shifting friction. More weight to move around to put it in a nut shell.. This also will cause the gates to wear out quicker and that is why everyone is breaking their selector pins..

You have the same problem as I posted above. The reason why your short shifter helped a bit is because it applies a little more force when shifting into gear. Buying a new flywheel and clutch isn't going to help out at all. You need to have someone check out your 3rd gear slider ring and syncro.
Also check out your shift selector pin and gates.. Any mechanic can do that fairly easy if he is competent and not full of B.S.
I have this problem with my 2004. 3rd never seems to want to go when both upshifting and downshifting. I have to force it into gear. (And this was BEFORE the short throw) which only made it worse.
I didn't realize how bad it was until I got my SVT with its low friction 6-speed. Wow! What a difference!
1st and 2nd fine WOT into third grinds a lil',when downshifting into 3rd from 4th it grinds and pops it back out -it would only go in if i rev it to 4k and then itll go in- -and then sometimes when going into 3rd from 2nd itll get in there but itll kinda pop but stay i 3rd ---its an o5 i got it in jan. gettin worse should i take it to the dealer--i have moderate mods nothing to crazy--will they hassel me

Finally someone who knows exactly whats up with this tranny issue.you are exactly right.I got to see my tranny completely tore down and the friction material was about 80% gone,as well as the 3rd gear slider ring.My buddy the tech said this is going to a major problem with 05s and all these posts are just the tip[ of the iceberg.his 05 acr had the same issues right out of the gate after purchase.I just got mine back from the dealership with a brand new tranny.(warrantied of course)
i just took mine in for warranty work, starter is dead and i either messed up a motor mount or messed up something in the tranny, my entire engine/tranny shakes like hell at idle. no news as of yet as to what it is. i've got 18xxx on mine, and other than killing the stock clutch, the only problem i've had is it being hard as hell to get into 1st when stopped sometimes. if im at a light, i have to really push to get it in there, but if im rolling it goes in just fine.
bitts - if you have the stock parts (which you should....ALWAYS keep stock parts), then put them back on before taking it in. the dealers will hassle you for anything and everything they can. i had a service manager try and tell me my BOV (which he described as "that shiny little anodized thing there") was my problem when my PCM was messed up, and that they weren't gonna warranty it. when i asked how he was going to prove to me that a part he couldnt even describe the function of was causing the problem (as the magnusson-moss warranty act says he has to), he shut up and fixed my car. if they try and give you crap for anything that you know isn't the problem, inform them about the magnusson-moss, and they'll usually quit harassing you. dealers will test you to see if you're gonna fight it or not.
all in all, just take your aftermarket parts off. i took almost all of mine off (except for exhaust, sts, and clutch) and so far, no complaints about fixing it under warranty...depending on whats wrong w/ tranny and if they have to open it up or not, idk if they'll even notice the clutch but if they do i'ma get some shit for it. i'll give an update on whats wrong w/ my tranny when I get one.

So do they have a fix for this or are the going to put it back together the way it was and it is going to happen again?
My 05 does a couple of the things listed mainly the wot 3 gear block out and the other would be the wot 3 gear grind. It only does it once in awhile but when it does it really pisses me off. Also downshifting to 2nd more times than not feels crunchy and hard but it doesnt bother me as bad as the 3 gear problem. Im afraid its going to do alot worse than just grind or block me out one day.

thats the same question I asked by buddy. And he said they(DCX)havent done anything to address the problem yet. They just installed another brand new 05 tranny w/lsd.If it breaks again he said he will put in another one.LOL

Thanks for the vote of confidence.
I said the same thing. This is going to happen to everyone with an 05 PERIOD. No matter what you do. As long as you drive the car you will have problems. Do what I did.. Get your self an 03 tranny and stick in your LSD from your 05.. You should be good for a while.
P.S. You know what really sucks. DCX voided my warranty because of this problem. A Kansas dealership said I modified my car and that is why it broke. This car is stage 0 ( stock ).. I had a needswings cut out pipe.. That is it.. So I am a little bitter over the whole DCX Bullshit.. They are all gay and useless people... And Kansas can dry up and blow away as far as I am concerned.. And Nationals are going to be where???? Count me out..
