Once in a blue moon i get locked out of 3rd gear. Most recently, it happened when i was racing a turbo'd 240...(still beat him by the way).......When i shift from 1st to 2nd, i grip the shifter and throw back with a decent amount of force (not beating on it tho)...when i shift from 2nd to 3rd, i palm the shifter with an open hand (not grab it).....I let the spring in the shifter naturally move the shifter to the middle position, then just push it up a bit into 3rd gear...I've learned that if u try to throw force the shifter into 3rd from 2nd, you'll either grind or get locked out completely sometimes. I've yet to grind in the SRT, but when i had the STS on the R/T, i've grinded here and there going into 3rd..........
I've had problems with 1st gear tho. If i'm in neutral drifting at say 5mph toward a traffic light and it suddenly turns green, i press the clutch in, rev it a bit (to prevent jerking) and try to put it in 1st. I often get locked out in these types of situations.........I've found that there is almost always the slightest bit of travel left in the clutch pedal and once i push it in even more, the shifter will then pop into gear. This Clutch is a Nazi!!!!
Sorry for the book i just wrote.

You broke the gear selector pin.. I have had the same thing happen 4 times..
Sorry, but I don't know too much about our trans. Do you have to remove the trans to get to it? Where is it? Because I called last Friday and they said that they removed it. Do you think they would know to look at that first? Again, sorry for all the questions.

It takes about an hour total to put the new selector in. You just have to remove the panel on top of the tranny.. That is actually the selector. It is a whole unit.. Good luck getting one.. They are on National back order..
Let me know what happens. If you need a selector then PM me..

When I shift into third whether I'm up or down shifting, it feels like I'm pushing the shifter through a bag of sand with tiny pebbles in it. It always goes into gear fine and never wants to come out, but pushing it into third takes considerably more effort than any other gear.

Well my car is at the dealer right now. I'm guessing what you are talking about is called the shift selector housing. They just replaced one of those on the car next to mine. They still haven't told me what the problem is with my car. They should be telling me tomorrow. I'll update as soon as I find out.
Sometimes I get a grind going into 2nd Gear when car is first warming up as well as into 3rd gear, seems to be better once car is fully warmed up but it is still aggervating..(I make sure I put the clutch to the floor just for that reason...clutch starts to engage about 1 1/2 to 2 inches off the floor) Sometimes it feels like 3rd Gear is blocked and you have to force it in, when that happens I do not get a grind but it feels notchy/clunky in the shifter ...
I also get a some clutch chatter or something like that.?. ...not sure really what it is but when decelerating (ex. around 25-30 mph and decelerating say in 3rd gear) I get kinda of a gearing down whine (not engine rpm whine) or clutch chatter..does anyone else have that ???? Is this normal for the srt4 trans/clutch ??? (get in 1st and 2nd gear as well at lower mph) Kinda hard to explain w/words ..gotta kinda hear it I guess..

2005 SRT4 ACR
1850 miles on it
The whine is normal.. I see you have an ACR.. Keep it stock and drive the hell out of it.. That is all the info that you need..
Well, it turns out that the shift selector pin was fine. The dealer told me that the 3rd gear syncro was completly shot and that something happened to the shift fork between 3rd and 4th. They said when they drained the fluid there were shavings everywhere. On top of that they said that my passenger side axle was bad (I didn't know about it, there were no problems with it) and that the clutch was shot (I think what they see is that I drove it home in 4th [I only came to a stop twice]) After all that great news they go ahead and tell me that its going to cost 3300 + tax because they are voiding the warranty. They are assuming that I race the car. Ha, I don't know where the hell they get the balls to tell me what I'm doing when they don't know me. I rarely race the car (been to track twice) and I only step on it every once in a while but nothing rediculous. I don't know what I'm going to do. They told me if I don't like it to take it up with Chrysler. I called and they said that they are going to go with what the dealer says because they called the dealer and they told them that I own a "race car". Rediculous!
i am tired of my 3rd gear.
won't go on, goes in but dosen't engage, goes in finally and then pops
out and bounces on the gate entry then grinds when trying to rengage
it.WOT shifted and blown something out.twice.
engages 50 % of the time. power shift/WOT shift and i am certain
something will blow. i have granny shift now. ): it's
getting fixed right now and they said that it would not be covered..
IT WASN'T EVEN FIXED THE FIXED TIME AROUND...
and i highly doubt it'll be fixed this time either. pricks...
mine grinds third if u dont go slow as hell,it it grinds third during wot shifting,it grinds every single time unless u go slow..and it also wont go in sumtimes and also will pop right back out at u
I have ~450 mi on mine. I have noticed when going into 3rd gear at less than 4000 rpm, it feels a little grindy but it ends up going all the way into gear. It feels similar to a 4X4 when moving at 3mi/hr and shifting the transfer case from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive. Any rpm higher than 4000, it slides right in smoothly. Car still too new to WOT shift. Guys are reporting in it gets better after breaking it in. What more can be expected of a heavy duty German delivery truck transmission. The upside is this tranny is probably the strongest link in the chain.
