I am also beginning to have problems. I have a bone stock 2005 with 21,000 miles. While driving normally at low speeds I get an intermittent 3rd gear lock out, (no grinding or popping out of gear) I then try to downshift into 2nd and I get a lockout on second. I have changed the fluid, adjusted the cross over cable. Is this an early sign of failure? I have warranty until August 27th. should I schedule a trip to the dealer? Will they be able to fix it with an intermittent problem or will I just be another crazy customer in their eyes?

What would you do? I really hate to leave my car at the dealer only to have them joy riding all day then tell me they couldn't recreate my concern.

ha well mine started doing this last week. i have during wot at the track it would only go in about 75% of the time. thats enough to fuck up a good run. well now when driving on the street, it will go into 3rd, then make the loudest grinding noise, and pop back out. I took it to a transmission shop today and they are going to fix it. Extended warranty FTW!

So, DCX never chimed in on this? How could they not? Seems like it's a pretty common problem in 2005 srts

I am f'ing sick of it poping out of third gear. I've lost several races because of this, and has ruined a couple track days for me. Who makes an upgraded complete trans or upgraded rebuild kit?

Unfortunately there aren't really many options for 3rd gear besides replacing the gear, thrust washer, and the synchronizer. It really just comes down to it being a poor design. The synchronizers are difficult pieces to manufacture, which makes it hard for any of us who have a possible solution to fixing it because of the amount of money needed to do it.

Word on the street is that Nemo is working on something for the 3rd gear synchro. Hopefully he can come through with a good solution. Time will tell...
