this whole thread making me f'ing feel hopeless and really friggin scared that I'm gonna get stuck with a POS car.

So much so that I have spent the last two weeks trying to trade it in for something else... but I'm looking at taking such a hit on the car as a trade in that I just don't think I can do it. I mean seriously at this point I'm kicking the shit outta myself for buying this car.

But it seems like now I"m stuck... if I try to trade in for something else I will lose THOUSANDS of dollars, and if the trans breaks and they try to blame it on my few mods or that "you must have been racing it" and won't cover itunder warranty, then I guess I'll also be out thousands of dollars. At this point I'm afraid to put anything other than Mopar fluid in there because as mentioned above if I put anything else, the dealership might try to blame THAT.

This really f'ing sucks I mean I LOVE the car I really do but I wanted to buy a NEW car so I wouldn't have any problems... now this brand new car is already acting wierd, having hard time shifting into 3rd gear several times a DAY. I'm really pissed and can't believe that Chrysler is basically turning their back on this instead of doing a recall or TSB like they should do.

Teaches me for daring to trust an american car company... after years of only driving japanese and having nothing but good experiences I feel like I took a chance on going back to an american car and LOST because of it.

SRT-4 interiors are teh slow , but man I do miss my Neon!

Give the DaimlerChrysler Customer Service Center a call with your concerns at 1-800-992-1997. Maybe if enough people call and complain DCX might wake up a bit and do something. As it stands, my SRT-4 is going in the shop next week to have the shifter looked at for any slack, and then having the trans torn down to look at the synchros. If it fixes it, great. My only concern is that this seems to be a design problem and I'm only replacing the parts with the same thing. I'm wondering if this problem will come back later on. It's just too bad the Caliber SRT-4 is an ugly POS. 300 HP and a Getrag 6 speed might be interesting.

So what is the best way to find out why my 04 SRT does not like third gear?
I would like a list on what to check to find out what is wrong.

Good luck with that.. I have been down that road many times. All DCX will do is listen to your complaints, pretend to type what you are saying in the computer, then tell you they can't do anything for you. If you want to get something done you need to find someone with a LOT of money to hire an entire Law firm. If you do let me know. Ill get about 100 people together with problems and take out DCX... That would make thousands of people happy.

Nice to dream once in a while though!!

Heh, I'm not looking to sue them, just get them to make good on the "new" car I bought that shifts like a 40 year old truck. I didn't think it would do much good either but I took my car to 3 different dealers (including the one I work at) and they all said they wouldn't work on it because they "couldn't duplicate the problem" and to "just drive it until something breaks". I called the Customer Service line on my lunch break and by the time I got off work that day our factory service rep had called in. Of course I did tell the C/S guy that I had taken it 3 times to be fixed and it was still messed up and that was all I needed to start the arbitration process.

same here... I'm not looking to sue... I just want to have peace of mind. I bought a brand new car and expect it to behave like a brand new car i.e.: not have any problems for a good long time, especially nothing major like failed transmissions!

I've had 20 year old cars that I had more confidence in driving every day and not worrying that I would end up on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck.

I doubt any of the 3rd gear shifting problems we are having would leave you stranded. You might have to wind out 2nd a bit more and skip 3rd, but unless it locks in gear or something I doubt you will have to get it towed.

I thought that too but I let my friend drive my car and the same thing happened. The other thing is that my friend who taught everyone else I know how to WOT broke his too. Well I changed my shift selector for the agp one, put an agp tranny mount and I'm getting booger bushings, filling with better tranny fluid, and getting rid of my mopar sts and getting the maddog with rod brake.

i really dont know...i have friends with 05 srt-4 and have been with them on the passenger seat...and they shift like shit and 3 of them have blown their clutches...and one has broken a shift selector....another has had a syncro messed up...

some people mess with the clutch pedal adjustment...supposoly to make the pedal shorter...but this just causes the clutch to not engage completely and over time problems occur...

like i said...its all in the shifting...

oh and i wot shift my car in every race...and havent miised a gear yet...maybe thats why its lasted
