I officially hate our transmissions. After breaking 2 input shafts, and now the latest, breaking 3rd-4th gear shift fork, I officially have no faith left in these tranny's. I can't wait until someone comes out with the billet steel shift forks, and a good upgraded input shaft, along with better needle bearings and snap rings.
Does anyone make an after market transmission for it yet?
Any update on those aftermarket tranny parts yet??
To the best of my knowledge, the best you can do today is the PWerks Stage 3 tranny. But it still doesn't have billet shift forks. I think the input shaft is a strengthened stock piece. Needle bearings and snap rings are stock AFAIK.

Actually, last I heard the guys at Pwerks had come up with a better snap ring for holding the needle bearing in place. I was keeping an eye on that as I didn't see the point of buying that trans with one of it's major weak points not being adressed.
They just had a guy snap an input shaft on a Stage 2 (cryo treated/magnafluxed), making just over 400 whp. Until that happened though, the guy was raving about how great the trans was and how much better it shifted than stock.

SRT-4 interiors are teh slow , but man I do miss my Neon!
were can I buy the parts to rebuild my tranny, please dont say the dealer. I have to change out something, dont know until I get it apart this weekend.
again thanks for the service manual too bro . I will be dropping my tranny once again saturday and the destruction will begin Me and my buddy saturday had it drop less than an hour. LOL
from my thread in my sign I think it maybe a shift fork but dont know yet will keep you guys posted.
Call MSC and talk to them. There's a few snap rings that must be replaced on ce you remove them (read the manual, it'll tell you which ones). Some of the dealerships told me i had to buy some $300 kit, MSC only sold me the ones I needed.
Well my tranny issues started at about 50k with 3rd gear coming out and grinding. This got worse to the point were i forced it in or skipped the gear all together. One day it was pissing me off I couldn't get in 3rd at all. Well I stopped at a light and the car wouldn't go, I thought I broke the shift selector again. I was able to get it in 3rd or fourth gear started the car and drove home in one gear oh and tranny fluid started to leak out while I was on 95. I took the trans out today and below are the pics of what I found so far. One of the shift fork tabs broke (the middle one) and the case has a crack which is probably from the piece that broke.
In the 6th pic on Page one (2nd row, first pic), see the 2 bearings on each shaft. One is blue and one black. There is a ring that goes on each, one is a ring and the other is more of a c ring with a slit. Which one goes where? I removed them a year ago and dont remember (not sure if it even matters)
^^^Nice pics there! I always liked the 03-04 tranny's more than the 05. Have you torn these apart to see the difference in the bearings used for the forks to slide on the fixed shaft? You might be surprised. Not that that's the only thing different about them, but it's one of the most obvious differences.
