See like the exact center of the pic, that is the 3/4 synchro. Anyways in the center you have 3 knobs, the center one is none existance and the ones before and after like 1/2 the other ones. Now I have that exact pattern almost equally 2 more times on that gear. So is this normal? I havent actually removed all the gears, just ushing flashlight for the moment.
All this started from a broken selector, I dont see in the main case, of course I guess it coudl be in the diff casing, may open that up to check. Chances are though if it didnt fuck something up right away then it went to the bottom of the tranny and came out when fluid was flushed right? Sorry Im not the original owner so Im trying to be cautious. Thx!!

Yeah that's not something you really want to assume.. Especially if you aren't going to tear it all the way down. I hope you have your old fluid so you can see if it is in fact in there.. If not, and you aren't going to tear it completely apart, best of luck to ya
Hmm well I dont see it there now and I drained a few days ago after receiving the engine/tranny. Im going to try to call the original owner to see if he got it out but it DEF was not in the fluid when i drained a few days ago, and granted i havent checked the diff casing and havent physically pulled the gears out, just looking from the top and side with a flash light i dont see any chunks of metal
My other question is about the synchros. Based on the pic, is that what the 3/4 looks like? thx
Hey roach sounds like you need to just take your tranny apart just to be sure. you dont want to end up like mine (mine was something different). When i took mine apart my syncros looked just like yours and there was nothing in the tranny or the fluid plus the tranny is shifting better than ever. I have a complete service manual LMK if you need a copy, it really helps.
I dont mind but Im wondering is how to lift the gears out
Ok so I took off the end plate (torx)
Took out reverse sensor
And the other housing so I can see the gears.
Then unbolted the 'reverse gear bolt' I believe its called in the manual.
Removed the one shaft holding the forks
Tried lifting everything but no go. Only thing Im thinking is do I need to unbolt the bushing on the clutch side? In the pics of the manual it shows the reverse gear off before pulling out but I dont see how it comes off, unless, again I need to unbolt that bushing on the other side where the clutch goes. Thanks
do i need to remove that bushing for the shaft on the other side first?
did you remove the snap rings from the gears? the plate wont come off till you remove the snap rings. ( if you dident they are on the end of the shafts)
Yeh I removed those in order to remove the metal end of the tranny. I guess its just unbolting those 2 bolts on the shaft end then lifting, Ill do that tonight.
Question, anything to be careful of in order to reinstall in the proper order? I see all the forks are basically touching, which is neutral so ill put them back that way, I just dont want shit to get busted cuz i removed ya know
What kind of symptoms was your car demonstrating? It's hard to look for anything without know what kind of problems you were having. But just for starters, look at the pentagon shaped teeth on your gears. You want to check for missing teeth, or otherwise damaged. Your gates will naturally have notches in the sides of some of them. You can tell these notches were machined in there. Check for gouges or other damage. You will definately notice them, as they won't look like the machined notches, they will look out of place most of the time. If you were experiencing gear clash, you may want to disassemble the shafts, and look at your syncros to check if the friction material on the inside of them has worn away.
These are just a few things to check for. There is always the needle bearings, the snap rings, and checking for scoring on the bearing mating surfaces.
I officially hate our transmissions. After breaking 2 input shafts, and now the latest, breaking 3rd-4th gear shift fork, I officially have no faith left in these tranny's. I can't wait until someone comes out with the billet steel shift forks, and a good upgraded input shaft, along with better needle bearings and snap rings.

Does anyone make an after market transmission for it yet?
Any update on those aftermarket tranny parts yet??
