NVG T850 SRT-4 trans taken apart pics - Add your pics today!
Anyone else have a failure and have pics of the issue you found? Post them here...
Synchros, shift forks, blocker rings, bent shafts, Missing teeth on gears?
SRTGURL's Trans. has 61k miles and 228 passes at the strip, has fallen from the jack stand from 4 feet up, has been through 1 stock and 2 spec clutches that failed (imagine the drive home). so yeah..it's been through alot.
Shift Forks are fine minus the Gates which seem to be worn a little bit, but that doesn't keep us from shifting into gear.
I got some weights for the transmission: total weight is 199 lbs.
so I tore into the whole transmission, differential. we had some metal chips under the case. I can't for the life of me find where it came from. some chips were aluminum (my thoughts were the intermidiate shaft housing). 2 chipc in there were steel...leading me to think that some material came off some gear. but size and shape does not fit a gear tooth. although being inside it could have deformed. still not an issue with losing 4th gear at high speed. as the 3/4 synchro is good.
I got the part prices:
Brass shift Forks:
$92.69
$90.87
$92.38
Synchros:
$475 - 1/2
$265.20 - 3/4
$379.60 - 5/R
Now the above pricing is the reason why people do not rebuild the T850 transmission.
Although if you have a fairly decent transmission I would cryo treat it.
We pulled Josh's tranny out a few days ago. Was having really bad problems shifting into gears. It had about 22k miles on it when we pulled it out and I can say this tranny was beaten to death and power shifted to all hell. We couldnt really see anything through the little peep holes so we pulled everything apart. Once apart you could see metal shavings caked up everywhere. The synchros were pretty ground down and missing a few teeth in spots, it looked like his shifting problem was comming from all the shavings in the middle of the slider the fork sits on. Well that and all the shavings in the bearing and what not. Heres a pic of the gears and the LSD
haha sooo that's what the input shaft looks like still connected to the trans.. lmao.. Last time I saw one was when the tech handed my my old one which had completely sheered off.. lol
Bump....If you have pictures of your T850 transmission failures please post them here.
Once I pull my tranny and tear it apart, I'll try to get some pics posted. I think I sheered my input shaft off last night.
S3R+CM S4 clutch+WOT shifting = tranny go BOOM!

Well tonight me and a friend that own a Srt-4 and another friend that rebuilds his own vw tranny, helped us open up a transmission my friend blew on his srt-4 with 12k. The problem started with 3rd gear scratching at only redline. Well obviously after a couple days my friend wot into 3rd and the transmission got stuck. We opened up the transmission and see the gears thru the peak hole and dont notice anything broken. We called it a Night and said we'll look at it tommorow.Obviously were thinking its probably something in the shift selector by the shift linkage. Will report back tommorow.

I will have some pics posted tomorrow. Chuck and I have found some new issues that can possible explain why the 05's are going through Selector pins and 3rd gear syncros. Will post more tomorrow.. Sleep time.
