This is the most fun car I have ever owned. Other than the axles I have been very satisfied with the car. Everything else has held up great. Most every car will have some kind of common problems. I love this car so much that I really don't even mind having to bring it to the dealer for axles, but when I get hassled by Dodge about a mld drop it really begins to annoy. My 2000 6 speed Celica GT-S was a great car but the gear box sucked. The syncros were always going out and every other guy with a gt-s I knew had the same problem- Nice loud grinding sounds shifting from 1st to second.
My 1994 6 spd Z28 prior to that develloped a grind due to bad syncros and got a new tranny under warrenty. I'm glad the srt is only a 5 speed because I have had bad experiences with 6 speed trannys. Z28 also develloped $2500 dollars worth of oil leaks at 55k miles. I noticed the oil drips literally two days before my extended warrenty was up "thank god"!

a couple of broken axles makes the car unrelaible? most of us that have broken axles beat the crap out of our cars at the track or on the street. even if we drive normal on the street, track time takes a hard toll on the drivetrain, and hard driving will break stuff. i'm glad that broken axles are the only complaint, and it's easily and cheaply fixed. 03 axles suck, i'm surprised mine lasted as long as they did, and for $200 you can get brand new stronger ones.

go talk to evo and sti owners about what hard track time does to their cars and you'll quickly see that a broken axle or two is a minor problem.

Yeah go buy yourself one. With the proper suspension set-up these cars are truely some of the most well balanced cars on the road. Everytime I get out after having some fun, I just look back and smile. I don't care if "it's just a neon" or not the best car to pick chicks up in. It's a blast to drive and still gives me goosebumps every time I get on the throttle or thow her into a turn and that in my oppinion is what it's all about. Pure exhileration. After almost having the car for three years I'm still not even close to being bored with it. I'm at almost 30 thousand miles and it feels faster and runs stronger than ever. If it just had some decent axles it would be perfect.

These are some of our pics when the drivers side axle('03) bearing on the cv joint broke apart. this happened while driving but it was caused by wheel hop and no tranny mount during the 196 passes down the track. (2003 axles were replaced with the 2004 axles)

What year is your car? 04

How many miles? 18k

What suspension mods do you have? IPP Coilovers, Rage LCA Bushings, JLM Solid Motor Mounts

How many times have they failed? 2 times (Driver's side tripod joint and the other time it was a passenger side shaft failure)

Replaced by Dodge? Hell no.

Driving style? Drive it like I stole it. Both times they failed they did so at the track on a hard launch.

What about a bad squeak from the cv joint at the wheel? I have checked everything on the brakes and the squeak is coming from the boot on the axle. It's a rubbing squeak, do I need to check the grease or does it need to be replaced? I have an 03 with 20k miles.

Thaks for the pics NIVO88T. I don't know enough about axles to recognize the benefit of the 04 axles over the 03. Do any experts know what makes the 04 axles stronger?

The dealership called me today and said that the would have to call dodge to aprove the warrenty work just like the other dealer. Well we'll see what Dodges says. I have to wait until monday to find out.

Have you taken it to Dodge yet?, or do you have too many mods?

I work at a dodge dealership and we only have to do that on extended service contracts. If ur still under 3/36 they dont have to call anyone! It gets done simple as that!!

People dont let these asshole dealers fool you!! I cant remember what act it is but it states that your warranty can not be voided unless it can be PROVEN that the aftermarket part installed caused the problem. We stick to that at my dealer. The way I see it is that there is a issue with 03 axles and lowering the car is not gonna be that much of a issue, not unless your totally slammed to the ground.
