Holy Crap...That seems like a fair number of times to be breaking those things, what exactly are you doing to them?

I just had to change my axle for the 5th time..Dealer put the first one in after my accident. Then, the next day I hit it in first and the car jerked to the right side almost off the road. Come to find out, the dealer put the axle in wrong and when I hit it, the axle came out of the tranny. And the dealer changed them up to this last one that I had to buy for $86 from the dealer.

I build c/v axles at work and am wondering where the srt axles break typically? I have yet to break one and I have 52k miles, an easy 50 passes at the track and who knows how much wheel hop abuse on the street.

my axles failed and had already been on their way out when i left the dealership with the car a couple weeks ago. i wasnt sure what the problem was but there was an intense vibration and wobble while accelerating. the dealership decided to order both axles from modern performance (oem). after the install the vibration is gone and i can finally floor it every once in a while without fearing an axle breaking or something. im not sure which side was the problem but i think it might have been both sides because when i did the tire spin check both sides made clunking noise when i spun them.
by the way i have an 04 srt-4.

you sure it is the axles? Could be a busted sway bar bolt or some other suspension piece....

What year is your car? 04 - Build date 9/03 - had the '03 axles

How many miles? 56k

What suspension mods do you have? None except ES LCA bushings.

How many times have they failed? 1 time

Replaced by Dodge? No. Did them myself

Driving style? Somewhat aggressive but not abusive!

Symptoms were side to side wobble when accelerating, Driver side axle was bad. Replaced them both.

Also replace the lower control arm ball joint boot/seal, cracked due to dry rot.

Car was running on S1 for two years, just went back to stock pcm.

What year is your car? 2005

How many miles? 117,000

What suspension mods do you have? BC Racing coilovers, Hotchkis sway bars, Werks STB's

How many times have they failed? Once

Replaced by Dodge? Negative

Driving style? Mostly cruising but aggressive when needed

The car was bought new in June 2005. S3 w/toys was put in November 2005. So far it has racked up 117,000 miles. I have 250+ time slips (mainly on slicks) plus countless pulls on the streets. My first broken axle happened this past weekend when I did a second gear pull from 40 mph. Two seconds after I got on the gas, the driver side axle broke at the bearings near the transmission.
