ps2srt4: The third gear extender feels awesome! Third gear goes in very smooth, and does not pop out when I downshift at high rpm's anymore. I am sold and a believer!

I don't really want to wrench anymore. I'd rather detail.

My car sometimes feels rubbery going into 3rd, doesn't grind just doesn't feel smooth like the rest. Does anyone think this part will help?

Was pulling out from a gas station with my car loaded with people and cargo when i felt the car not moving like it should. I just put motor and transmission inserts on the car so it feels very different anyway. The hot weather always makes shifting hard but third gear just would not let me in. Now i have a constant grind going into third, whether i am WOT, granny driving, or setting still. Would the the extender for 3rd gear be the solution?

I am not a professional on the subject, so if any one out there in internet-land has experience similar to Mike1992's and rx7bandit's please post up. It sounds like Mike could use one, as I assume the "rubbery" feeling he discribes is the onset of a third gear problem. As for rx7bandit, I would say this extender may be a bandaid, but you should get the real wound fixed. You may have synchro damage. You may need a transmission fluid change, which is easy as heck BTW. It seems that when transmission problems wear they cause other problems as a result. I recommend some internals attention.

Great. I am going to have to pop for one of these. Thank you for the report.

You are velcome. I love being able to shift without worrying anymore. it's like having a new transmission. (Almost)

Does your third gear shake while it's in gear?

Actually, Yes. I assumed it was from my filled trans mount. Is this common with extenders? I hadn't heard of it before the install.

I guess it means you have an option. Either rebuild the transmission (somewhat) or deal with a slight vibration. The vibration isn't bad, just different. It vibrates the shift stick and ball. I am sure I'll get used to it, and rarely notice.

So would it be correct to say it's not hurting anything?

If it was an over extension of the gear it might cause excessive wear but I really think that's a question for pwerks. If you follow the linkage all the way to the syncro there isn't much else that would cause it to shake like that. If you put your hand on the shifter does the shaking stop?

fYi, I dont have an extender and I have nothing against pwerks... I'm just throwing it out there.

I understand, and nor do I have anything against Pwerks. I have a few of their parts in my transmission. I will have to ask them what their position is on this shaking. Nothing stops it, and i wonder if its related to the noise our trans makes.
