Default Differential help please

O.K. I'll try to keep this short while still providing details. My differential in my manual trans. (nvt-350) decided to take a crap on me today and I got lucky because the tranny did not blow. Now I do have a good complete differential from another broken tranny that I would like to use. My questions are 1) Can I swap diffs 2) How do you shim and preload these transmissions if needed 3) Can I just pull the bearings off the broken diff and put them on the good diff.
Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks for the help. If you need more info please let me know.
