well i hope there is still someone monotoring this thread to help me out. I have a 2005 SRT4 with about 20,000 miles on it now. When i first got the car it grinded from time to time going into 3rd. It never popped out or did anything different just grinded from time to time. Well it stopped grinding for a few months and just a few days ago without notice my 3rd gear went out. It goes into place where 3rd gear should be at but there is nothing there. It does not grind or anything. Every other gear is perfectly fine. oh and the shift lever has alot of play now too. Any suggestions on what could have happened or how to fix it?

The trannies are fine, it's just that our tranny is a truck tranny and not a sports car tranny. If this transmission were in the FWD delivery truck it was taken from nobody would complain at all.

My clutch is getting bad again...not disengaging fully..again. I may just take it in to a clutch shop and throw some money at it. Tired of dealing with it.

Default Clutch problems possibly??

I have an 03' with about 50k miles and I dont drive the car hard. its an everyday driver, and somtime when I lay into boost and say im racing sombody, the car tends to fall on its face then it will pick up and so on. Its only under high boost and higher RPMs. It almost feels like poor fuel delivery but I know its not coule it possibly be the clutch?? or any of the components?? I have no idea. The car runs great makes big power but this is really getting on my nerves and IDK what id be gettin myself into to put a new one in. and which setup I should put in?? if anyone can help, please give me a heads up? thanks

Naw. When a clutch slips, it stays slipping until you back off.

my clutch just started slipping, just barely. I put race gas in it the other day, going down the road about 65mph ill punch it in fourth, and the rpms will overshoot about 1000 rpm on the boost spike, but not too much after that and slowly fall back down to the correct rpm. With hom off it doesnt do it. It also doesnt always slip, but im having a weird clunk noise, ive tried retorquing the motor mounts, aligned the motor the best i could, and its only getting worse. it makes me think the surface of the clutch is falling off or something? Im going with an ACT disk clutch and flywheel, but is this an adjustment issue that is slowly taking out the clutch? Im at 57800 miles, origional clutch, stage 2 since it came out. Every now and then first or reverse is hard to get into gear, but shifing into second third fourth then back to first makes it easy as shit to get into gear. any ideas? thought i would also add, this clunk is like, your reversing out of a parking spot, about 4 or 5mph and put the clutch in right as you get off the gas its just like vrrrr.... clunk. Same thing with first gear, but only low speeds, at regular speeds its fine. Every now and then shifting back into first at a light when rolling slightly it will have a little half second grind, real light, and i can feel it slotting into the gear.

New Mopar Performance Clutch (again) tomorrow at Modacar. After 45k miles with S3R, the car now creaps forward in 1st gear when I rev it and it's hot. I have changed the fluid (ATF+4 and FM), rerouted the wiring by the clutch pedal, adjusted the clutch pedal cable and pumped it 100 times to make sure it's bled. But clutch still starts to engage almost as soon as I start to let the pedal up. Probably just the TOB, but may as well r/r the clutch at the same time. Only happens when hot. Reverse usually impossible by the time my commute finishes (37 miles) unless motor turned off. Hopefully it's not the tranny!

Decided to get brand new Mopar flexplate bolts (8 crank + 4 clutch) from S&P. Those guys at S&P are THE best...even when the USPS fails to meet their delivery comittment. Thanks Jimmy and Becky!

Default Just to follow up...the clutch really was "bad"

Just picked up my car from Modacar. Actually, it was ready yesterday evening, but I had already rented a Ford Minivan so I decided to wait until this morning to pick up my car.

A big thanks to all the folks at Modacar for getting the whole job done properly and within the time committment (1-day). Special thanks to Jay whom I understand did most of the work and of course Casey, both Jedi Masters in my book. Casey agreed with me that using brand new flexplate/clutch bolts was definitly a good idea and cheap insurance - threads stretch and it's best to use nice new Mopar bolts with the green Loktite. Casey also told me our T850 tranny is really heavy so I'm glad I didn't try to do this job myself.

So now my clutch feels great again. If anything, the pedal effort is a little softer than before. And now I have to let out the clutch pedal a good ways before it starts to bite (unlike the immediate bite it had before).

Best of all, I can put it into reverse after a long drive...without turning off the motor.

So now I'll get an alignment at Les Schwab, break in the clutch for 500 miles, and hopefully enjoy another 3 years or 45k miles...or more.

Tonight, I'll try and post some pics of the old Mopar Performance clutch and TOB which had been in the car previously.

Glad to hear it, Simon. Please do post pics. This gives me hope that a clutch job will make the car fun to drive again..

Default Looks can be deceiving...

The components look in pretty good shape.
But it sure felt weird when it was in there.
I still think the clutch may be OK and just the TOB is history.
But it would be way too much work for me to bother with.

Here is a loock at the backside (LOL).
Not sure why the round thingee is loose...
But you can clearly see the 6-sring hub for the Mopar Performance clutch - the stock only has 4 springs.

Anyone have a pic of a brand new TOB?
I don't see anything obvious is the above pics to indicate the TOB is bad.
Come to think of it, how do you tell if the TOB is OK or not?
Ditto for the clutch? How dow you know if it's OK by just a visual inspection?
Thanks.
