My clutch burnt and Im about to purchase one with pressure plate and flywheel from another member on here but my worries are that he had it in an 04 srt4 and I have an 05. My question is, does it matter, the year of the car. I know the 05 is built with minor modifications from the 03-04. Am i going to be able to install the clutch in my 05? thanx for your time.
Back about 6 months ago my clutch started slipping when fully engaged and under a load. I thought it was a little premature for the clutch to go as I only had 50k on the car but I ended up replacing it.
Clutch was great for a few weeks then the new clutch started slipping again. I had also noted that the pedal was slowly getting harder and the pedal travel longer to engage the clutch. I thought I would shoot a master cylinder at it this time. I went to a friends house to install the master cylinder and before hand I had him get in the car and feel the pedal. He has a twin disk on his SRT4 and he said my pedal was way harder than his twin disk.
So we proceeded to replace the master cylinder and afterwards the difference was night and day. The clutch engagement was crisp and pedal was soft as a pillow.
Just a week later the pedal started to get harder and clutch engagement lazy. Takes alot of pedal travel to engage the clutch.
So this time I decide to replace the slave cylinder. Replaced it and not much of a change at all. The pedal is a little softer but engagement is still wrong.
Now my friend with the twin disk has had his pedal get real hard all the sudden and break the master cylinder plunger off at the pedal. We replaced the master cylinder and it was fine for a few weeks then it got hard and broke again. He thinks he might have a bad 1-2 fork also because it has horrible shift selection (IE griding) before the master cylinder broke and has horrible shift selection with the pedal rigged to work.
Anyway, could someone please shed some light on this for me? What is up with the hydraulic system?
I was changing my engine oil yesterday and decided to pull the slave out and try the bleeding procedure thats in the FSM. I disconnected the slave to remove it from the tranny and noticed it was spongey. So I hooked it back up and did the bleeding with it out of the tranny. I disconnected it again and it was hard as a rock this time. I reconnected it and disconnected it real quick and noted it was spongey again. So I was thinking maybe I am inducing air into the system at the quick disconnect fitting.
What I ended up doing was connecting the slave to the master out of the tranny doing the bleeding procedure and instead of disconnecting the slave to get it back in the tranny I took the charge pipe out and was able to install the slave with it still hooked up.
I am still evaluating now but the results so far have not been impressive.

Just a follow up here.
I adjusted the pedal some today. I can shift into gears fine now its just the clutch lets out way at the top now. I believe in time the clutch will start slipping again. We'll see in a few weeks.
All I did was get the clutch and TOB replaced and it's just about perfect now.
So I guess I'd suggest doing the same.
Especially if the clutch engagement starts immediatly close to the floor.
Or if the car creeps forward when revved in 1st with the clutch in all the way.
Or if reverse is impossible.
All when hot of course.
Ok, I'll try to make my story short. Original stock clutch, 25xxx miles, stock turbo, avc-r, hard pipes, bov, ptp spring, methanol, 22psi.
I WOT shifted one night from third to fourth and my car wouldn't go into fourth. I kept trying and I couldn't get my car in gear with the clutch in. Had to "power shift" it to the dealership. Thought my master cylinder went out again. They said it was my clutch.
Installed at a shop was a South Bend cryo treated stage 4. Having adjusted nothing or messed with the clutch, it would only partially disengage. We adjusted the clutch pedal and everything was fine, but engagement was just off the floor.
800 miles of break in and I do a burn out, clutch then feels funny like it isn't quite disengaging. 1000 miles one burn out and four WOT shifts and my clutch wouldn't fully disengage. It would roll when in first and getting it into reverse is near impossible. It is like this hot or cold.
Is this my shift fork having bent or did I have my stock pressure plate go and then my new pressure plate is just crap?
I recently think i blew my clutch i havnt had any problems before with it. but when i was going about 60 i tried to put it in 1st gear it wouldnt let me so i just kept pushing down the clutch but never released it after that i kept pushing and i hurd a ping and my clutch now wont go into gear please helpp do i need a new clutch?
This is a joke right? If not...all I have to say is WOW!!.....Just WOW!
Who in their right mind would put their car into 1st gear while doing 60....then with the car telling you that its not a good idea and doesn't want to let you...you proceed to shove it in as hard as you can....I think either a shift fork or synchronizer replacement is in your near future.
I'm pretty sure my clutch went out but i just wanna see if there is anything else i need to do while im puttin in a new clutch. So when i start up my car i push the clutch in and turn it on and its in neutral already but i can't let go of the clutch pedal without the car shaking hard and dying on me. The car can go into 1st-4th but not 5th or Reverse at all. If i put it in 1st-4th and try to gas it and it won't move at all, but if i leave it in neutral and gas it and let off the clutch it will start to roll nothing over 2mph . I'm pretty confused on what to do i have some money saved up to fix it but i want to make sure whats wrong with it before i start buying stuff i don't need.
Thanks -Chris
EDIT: Also i have been hard shifting into 1st,2nd and reverse for about 3 weeks before this happend.
is there a way to adjust the clutch other than under the dash on the pedal itself ?

God Created Turbo Lag So V8's Would Have A Chance
I dont know if anyone else is having this issue, as I didnt have time to read all 17 pages. During any kind of driving, from 2nd gear up, anything over 5psi, it seems like the clutch is slipping. It revs, but little to no pull. It doesnt do it in 1st gear at all, even at WOT. I have yet to smell the clutch burning. The transmission has 10k on it and the clutch has 56k. Its a Centerforce Dual Friction. It has seen many low 12 second passes in the past. I was thinking it could be a slave cylinder problem since I havent had a smell and it doesnt do it in 1st gear at all. But Im getting ready to replace the clutch this weekend so any info before then would be great! Thanks in advance.

Ok some of you might remember my problem with vibration in the clutch.. I thought it was a SouthBend.. Well it was a Spec Clutch.. Got my Act & Flywheel in today and no more vibration.. Its kinda wierd to drive it now without the vibration.. Kinda like a new car.

To me it sounds like a burnt clutch. If the clutch has 56k miles on it and you have driven it hard...maybe it is definitely time to change it out. I just put that same clutch in my car and it seems to be doing just fine. My symptoms were the same as yours before I did my install.

If you heard a "ping," something broke. Why you'd try to go into 1st at 60mph is beyond me.

Your clutch needs replaced. I went through two Centerforce clutches. 1st gear doesn't slip because it's such a short gear, as mine never did either. 2nd wasn't bad for me, either. From 3rd-5th after 2,500 RPM and under heavy acceleration, the RPMs would just skyrocket and the car would barely speed up. Upon removing my old Centerforce clutch and disassembling it, the friction plate was completely worn and there were a lot of burn marks on the flywheel itself.
Replaced with:
All has been well for about 2,500 miles so far.
