Default Clutch going out?

I have and 03 with 31k mi on it I just picked up. The clutch pedal seems to have a lot of travel on it until the clutch engages. Again this is the stock clutch so I'm expecting that either the SRTs have a long travel, or the clutch is literally on the way out.

It's not slipping or anything and I've launched it at 3-4k a couple of times (stg 3 axles and solid mounts) and it's hooked up.

Minus the one "stupid" launch, should I be shopping for a new clutch now just in case?

Can anyone suggest something that is streetable and will hold 300whp daily driven? I was thinking a sprung Stage III but not sure on brand/etc. I'm only at 220whp now (stock) but I'm about to bolt on and try to hit 300 and I'd like to make sure I have all my bases covered.

Thanks in advance guys!

IMO you should be fine with a modular replacement from Mopar or Southbend. Make sure to get a throw out fork and a bearing. Lately is seems like people have axle seal leaks right after clutch servicing so order 2 new seals with the new fork........I needed new seals when I did mine.

Follow the FSM and the how too for doing the trans. In the FSM they instruct to disconnect the slave, do not disconnect the slave unless you need to replace it. Instead using the FSM for instructions to bleed the slave, remove the slave from the bell housing and support it out of the way to remove the trans and service clutch.

To avoid the common problems make sure to follow the instructions for adjustments no matter how trivial sounding........there very easy anyway so IMO its not worth ignoring.

If you plan on going with more then 400HP in the near future definitely contact a vendor on here to get advice on which clutch to match the power level and how it will be used.

If you hunt around on here including the how too section you should be able to find the FSM in PDF format.

There's actually a couple detailed how-to's in the how to section on how to replace the clutch and drop the transmission. Step by step, with pics! (it's not as easy as the guy above me is making it sound) It is actually a lot of work, but if you have a tranny jack and all the right tools THEN it may be a little easier, but still a lot of work.

Have you tried adjusting your pedal?

Mine engaged really close to the floor and I adjusted the pedal and now it engages about half way up....I like it a lot better. (even though my clutch IS, actually slipping)

Thanks for the tip... actually I was going to adjust the pedal tonight when I get home as the clutch is not slipping, just takes a lot of travel to "catch"... but once it catches it, catches hard.. so it may just be travel that needs to be eliminated.

I also drive a 350z with a tight clutch so there's a learning curve to it too lol
