A new input shaft is about $385 plus labor. I don't know if you guys have noticed but the T-850 input shaft has no real support. I think it should have some sort of support bearing somewhere after the throw out bearing and before the 1st cluster gear to absorb some vibration. just a thought.
well your on the right track! anyone that knows anything about bearings know that needle bearings really suck. with that out the way, if those fail you can still drive but youll have problems. the more you drive more you break. sometimes more stuff breaks than others. every 850 ive torn down has alwayse had bad needle bearings in a gear. now, you add power, W.O.T. shifting and other harsh driving then those bad bearings now can turn into anything all the way up to a broken shaft or a cracked case. ive rebuilt over 15 srt-4 850s and it alwayse looks like driver abuse. why? cause the 850 is not a high performance tranny. it can handle power but its not for racing. you can pull a boat with the damn thing but you never know if it will make it another day at the track. mine, mine is fine. no problem , ever. yours well you just never know!
Here is an up close and personal look at a busted input shaft..
You would think they could use a little better material.
That looks just like my input shaft....
I just broke mine, 18750 miles, CM Stage 7, GT35R 24psi, WOT shifting 3rd to 4th. Its a 05 bought on december 04.
What can be a good replacement, is there a better one or something? I dont want to broke another one. Seems that the stock input shaft cant take more than 350hp.
it seems that almost everybody that broke theirs did it while WOT shifting..
im guna go ahead and not ever do that..
Yeah, that's what I thought until last wednesday. Yep, that's right. I've broken 2 of them now. I am the shit, I guess. LOL! And no, it wasn't WOT shifting. I was actually in second gear. YEAH, SECOND! I was already in gear, and just floored it, and it snapped once I spooled up. So I'm buying a new one, and going to take it to a local shop to see if they can make a CNC'd Billet Steel shaft. I sure hope they can do it, because quite frankly, I'm tired of pulling my tranny for rebuilds and such. I'll let you all know what I find out.

Just dropped my tranny and there it was...BROKEN INPUT SHAFT!!
I did it on a new tranny w/ less than 8k miles on it, doing a WOT 2-3shift w/a CM stage 4 4puk clutch....i'm pissed!!
Tranny build date was 1/05/05
Welcome to the club, man. I expect many more BISC(Broken Input Shaft Club) members to join us in the near future. It's not a matter of "IF" it breaks (that is to say, when you have lot's of torque with a grippy clutch), just a matter of when, and how many times, particularly with the puck clutches.
how do you find the build date?
anyway its an 04 bought in may 04...
has 35k miles approx 350whp and BRUTAL clutch for last 8k miles
going the cryo route
