Default ***POLL***Broken input shaft***POLL***

I have seen very few people that have broken an input shaft, but of the very few, all have been cars that have a build date of approximately August to december of 03. But that's only about 4 cars I know of so far.

I am trying to get a compilation of all people on the forums who have broken an input shaft to see if there may have been a time period in which the shafts could have been weaker for one reason or another.

I just got through breaking my input shaft doing a WOT shift from 2-3 gear. Now I am scared to ever shift like that again, but if enough info. comes back indicating that the later 03 srt-4's are more prone to this problem than the other time frames, then my worries as well as many other people's worries may decrease as to whether we should worry about this problem.

The more info. the better. If you have a friend that owns an SRT-4 and has broken their input shaft, but doesn't frequent the forums, see if you can get the build date of his/her car and post it up for all to see.

Edit: Also, if you have mods on your car, post them somewhere in the thread so that we can get an idea of about what power levels are breaking the shafts. Post miles on your car when the shaft broke as well.

I'll start. I have S3R with an aluminum flywheel and a CM S4 6-puck clutch. My car had 18,500 miles on it when it broke. I was WOT shifting from 2-3 gear without HOM on. So power levels should be around the 320-330 hp levels. I think that info should pretty much cover it.

Now I know the saying usually goes, "No news is good news!" But I know there are at least a few more people out there that have broken an Input shaft. I Need INPUT!

I broke mine twice same 2nd to 3rd gear shift, first one was under warranty, 2nd just happened so i'm thinking of fighting it, No wonder that part is on national back order, everyone is breaking them. I have heard of many more people braking them, just make a post on the buy/sell forum and you'll see.

I have a BDJS dump and MBC set to spike at 16.5psi drop to 14.5-15psi, open air lid...
We should just get together and sue DCX!!!

well, this isn't looking too promising. Seems as though it is spread out pretty evenly between years and months
Now as for three of us that have posted what our mods are, it looks like we all have the S4 clutchmasters clutch. I am wondering if the clutch is just a little bit too grippy and thus applying a nasty shock to the input shaft, resulting in shearing it off. Now what we need is a list of mods from the other people that have broken their input shaft that states what clutch they are using!!!

Well I know of an early 04 that broke. CM stage 4 and stage 3 also. He has recently traded in the car. I guess he might have not seen this topic yet.

Hey Chuck.. I think if we can eliminate the broken Input shafts and the screwed up slider rings and syncros then we might be able to come up with a winning combo. I say gears and a more durable main shaft.

I broke 2. One in my 03 tranny with 7k miles. Then replaced that with a 04 tranny with about 10k miles, and broke that one also.

A new input shaft is about $385 plus labor. I don't know if you guys have noticed but the T-850 input shaft has no real support. I think it should have some sort of support bearing somewhere after the throw out bearing and before the 1st cluster gear to absorb some vibration. just a thought.

Here is an up close and personal look at a busted input shaft..
You would think they could use a little better material.
