Bad clutch or something else?

-can go through all gears fine when car is off

-when driving, have trouble with upshift to 2nd and 3rd gear (grinding/crunching sound)

-when driving, downshifting into 2nd gear is almost impossible (have to force it in hard and hear a crunch)


I figured it would have to be the clutch since I can go into all gears fine when the car is off (both upshifting and downshifting), but I don't know much about transmissions so help me out.
