Hey guys I have a quick question I use to always buy the 3 quarts of mopar atf4 automatic tranny fluid and 1friction modifier but recently walmart has discontinued to carry the mopar brand however they do carry the generic automatic tranny atf4 and right on the front says designated for Chrysler and dodge vehicles!!!just wanna make sure as far asi new atf4 is atf4 there isn't going to be a real significant diff right!????any other recomended tranny fluid??????
redline, rp syncromax and amsoil is what your responses will consist of, ive tried the rp and didnt really like it, but i just order the amsoil about 2 mins. ago lol so we shall see how that goes.
fyi the rp is $18 per quart, amsoil is about 10 and everyone seems to like that better after switching from the rp
I used to use the dcr powershift fluid but it was like $75 bucks for a 3/4 or so full gallon jug. I just recently switched to amsoil atf and it was like $10 a qt. So far seems fine.

I faced the same predicament as you on my 5th tranny fluid change (93,000 on the odo now). I opted to use the Walmart brand with the friction modifier and I dont notice any decrease in performance. Please note I am 'almost' stock with the exception of a bored throttle body & SS brake lines (from all I have been reading I basically I have a stock car). Others may beg to differ but I would never use the ATF+4 without the modifier (did that once because Dodge 'forgot' to put it in) and I was fighting to shift in every gear for 3000 miles before I figure it out. Ran back to Dodge where they apologized and replaced it at no charge and boy the difference was like night n day.

I NEVER use friction modifier. It's only there to help quite down chatter in the LSD. The friction modifier will eat the friction material off your synchronizer blocker rings.

I know the modifier does break down the viscosity of the ATF faster (thus my attentivenss to regular changes) but from my personal experience it improves shifting when using ATF+4 (and I have tried both with and without). I am sure with other fluids you can probably omit the friction modifier.
which amsoil is exactly the one to get the Synthetic Universal Transmission Fluid, Synthetic Fuel Efficient Automatic Transmission Fluid, or the Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 5W-30....and are theese products only availabe online or can i purchase them at an autozone or a a discount autoparts store, and if its only to order what other type of fluid can i use that available at an auto parts store , cuz i just came to find out my tranny is verry low on fluid and i had to leave my car on the lift at school
I had to order my amsoil from a local distributor. I used the amsoil at4. They have all sorts of stuff to choose from but that's what was recommended to me.
Mopar atf+4 is a world class fluid [blend] and Chrysler licenses companies to use that name if they meet there standard.
I use atf+4 and the friction modifier and have over 75000 miles on my car with over 500 trips down the strip, most wot shifts and some people think I have an automatic.
Most modern fluids have the FM in it already [including atf+4] and are fine to use. Why Chrysler adds additional FM is unknown but I can assure you it is not to ruin your syncros.

I wouldn't ever say it's to purposely ruin your synchros. Just a negative side effect of it. I've tore many of these trannys apart, some beat on harder then others. The ones who have ran Mopar friction modifier for an extended period of time have always looked the worst, moreso on the blocker rings.

For the guy who asked, I use Amsoil ATF+4.
I don't disbelieve your findings if the sncros are doing their job they will wear. The Fm is needed by the syncros to line the gears up for shifting and is in all modern fluids[ royal purple, amsoil, gm sycromesh and the others] for modern transmissions with the "pads". Without the FM you will not WOT shift, it will not go in gear because the fluid is so slick the gears keep spinning and won't line up.
Our old Shelby Dodges use oil but don't have the pads.
No doubt my neon is due for a transmission but has shown its tailights to other more powerful neons because they couldn't shift it.

i use the mopar fluid in the winter only... in cold weather it gives me the least amount of gear clash. For warm weather ive been using the RP fluid(love it) but may try amsoil one more time because of the $$$ difference.
