Default Alternative to Rage's HTOB

So after my clutch fork destroyed itself a few days ago Ive been researching alternatives. I found out about Rage's HTOB but i learned they don't sell them anymore. I'm all about reducing the amount of moving parts in any type of machinery so the HTOB idea really stuck with me. Ive seen a few custom setups on here that looked impressive. Now Ive found 2 types of HTOB on Ebay that are very reputable and look like they can do the job.

Here's the first.

HYDRAULIC THROWOUT BEARING,LINE KIT, & BLEED HOSE,STOCK:eBay Motors (item 220449951063 end time Nov-06-09 15:04:13 PST)

And the second.

HYDRAULIC THROWOUT BEARING,LINE KIT,& BLEED HOSE,RACING:eBay Motors (item 220449951167 end time Nov-06-09 15:04:39 PST)

The first looks like it will definitely work. But i don't know the Diameter of the bearing retainer collar on the input shaft. I need to measure that in a sec. The only problem i see with this one is that it looks like it would be a PITA to mount with some sort of plate like Rages'.

The second one looks more promising. It has a base plate built in and looks sturdier. The only problem i can see with this one is that the Engagement face of the bearing (the part that pushes on the clutch fingers) looks smaller in diameter than the first option.

I'm not trying to bash Rage here, I'm just providing a viable alternative to waiting. Im all about supporting the vendors. I just dont want to go back to the shitty TOB, Fork, Pivot ball setup. Discuss plz.

I have been wanting to do the same thing. I don't know how to make the plate or whatever to mount the HTOB. Is that something we'd have to make up ourselves?

It is hard for me to picture what all it would require without having dropped the transmission yet and seeing how it all works in there.

Here are some links to the parts a friend provided me with, I believe these are the same parts Rage used

Hope you guys figure something out. There is another person who makes a kit for our car. But he wants to much in my opinion $950. I would call the one of those places and see if they can make something to our specs or have something already available.

Well, my transmission is sitting in the kitchen as we speak. lol. As its my only car right now I'm going to have to throw in my spare Fork and TOB for the time being. I am going to Email the manufacturers of the two aforementioned bearing i posted earlier and see what i can get. Hopefully we can get a cheaper priced alternative.

As for the installation process? I'm not sure exactly. I would need to have both the bearings in front of me so i can figure it out. Unfortunately that's what i might do.

Hopefully i can get the ball rolling on this and get something prototyped soon. Thanks for the links 7055. I was trying to figure out how to connect the braided hose to the master cylinder.

See if you can get the plate design from them & make some plates. Now that I think of it Bitts is a machinist see if he could work something out for ya.

If someone can get me the plate design I can take it to Boomba when I go and find out how much it'd cost.

This is most likely what I'm going to do. Use the parts I listed, which I believe are the same as Rage's, and fab up a plate like Rages here. Or if you look closesly there are two bolts holes. I could just bolt a stud into that upper hole and have that wedge against the HTOB so it doesn't spin. Sounds ghetto but it's pretty much the same thing Rage did. Then you wouldn't need a custom plate or anything. Then just get some shims if need be and follow Rage's how to, might not even need shims.

This is Rage's

I did have an idea earlier with a Tilton HTOB I saw that had tabs on it that looked like it very nearly lined up with the two bolt holes on the t850 but I was told it doesn't line up and that HTOB wouldn't work on the t850.

Anyway don't get the wrong idea. I haven't even dropped my transmission yet, I won't have time until Christmas this is just my preliminary idea. I think it'll work though.

Tilton makes a HTOB that works because that's what that guys uses that sells the kit for $950. I would have to find somethign with a bigger face on it since I'm using the Rage twin disc.
