Yup... I have the same issue. What what I can tell it is the clip for the 3rd gear synchro..... if you look around, you will see how many guys have broken theirs... it seems as though it gets a little out of whack at times... and causes you to be unable to downshift into third (thats how mine is). How, that being said, many guys that replace the fork when they are doing the clutch have this go away... so chances are this is because the selector isn't being pushed up enough and is catching the clip....

Yeah, basically you're screwed.

Mine started doing that about 10k miles ago.. and finally went boom. I can no longer downshift into third unless I perfectly rev-match.

Getting my tranny rebuilt tomorrow.. YAY.

I have never dynoed my car, just too lazy. The sig is in the works, it's not done yet. But I'm boring it .020 8-1 JE's with Eagle rods. Should be a 2.5, fresh new stg3 turbo, stock head & probably cams. I have nitrous, and probably plan a 4 nozzle, and bigger shot. I can't afford cams & a ported head, but the foundation for the future has been set. That and the fact I no longer have balance shafts, and a underdrive pulley. The car should rev alot quicker, we'll hopefully see in 7-10days. The block, bedplate, pistons & rods are now at the machine shop. Then once I get it back 7-9hours later, I'll be driving it.

I have had a god awful problem with my tranny. It started grinding when it had about 8k on it..they rebuilt it, or so they said.. then again in about 10k more miles it did it again...dodge fixed it again..and again at about 30k it did it again and they fixed it again and voided my warranty..then I had to pay $1080 to get it fixed..and what they told me at my friends place that fixed it is..instead of rebuilding it or changing both the syncros and shift fork..they were just taking off the section they needed and replacing the shift fork..and the syncro was bent so it kept tearing up the shift forks..

My transmission did the same thing 05 srt-4. I got it replaced with a BRAND NEW transmission Aug 2007 35,348 miles.

Now 8 months later it's doing the same thing again 41,880 miles. They are warrantying the Transmission AGAIN because 12 month/12,000 miles warranty. I will get a BRAND NEW Transmission.

8 months and 6,500 miles apart. they tried telling me that my rear tires were bald because i was beating on the car LOL

I had those tires for almost 2 YEARS now. Just bought 2 new ones for the front. Jackasses though they are giving me no other hassel and replacing my junk trans with a BRAND NEW one.

Had the same problem for a while and finally while on a fun run a hour away from home my tranny broke and was stuck in 4th gear. Made it home after driving a hour in 4th gear at 60 mph. Opened up my tranny and found my Shift fork broke! Synchros looked fine. Changed the shift selector only and voila!! Can down shift into 3rd again w/ no grinding or kicking out at all.
It could either be the synchros, retaining clip or shift fork.
