Default New Jersey Police

so right now im 20. ive been going to school to part time for criminal justice to become a cop...i was always under the impression that you needed 60 credits or your associates degree to become a cop in this state (local cop)...but now from various people im getting told now that all i need is high school diploma and to pass the police acadamy and i can apply for a job in NJ as a local cop...is this true? i would want to stay in school part time if it was but if i could walk on now that would be great

0 and i think you have to be 21 but thats gonna be in a couple months anyway.

thanks for your input guys!

Call the dept. and find out. That's the only way to get a real answer.

theres 2 ways usually... civil service test and a diploma or cheifs test and 60 credits are the 2 common ive come across. i have a ton of friends who are police officers and one of which worked at rahway state at 18 and then bergen sheriff at 21 now local pd with no college credits! also i am friends with a cheif, i play softball with him, and he told me no credits, pass his test and id have a chance. ive been thinkin bout tryin with no credits myself but i like my current job and have a bunch of connections there so why leave haha. hope that helps!

yeah thanks man...i know some pd's (desperate ones usually) will sometimes hire you w/ nothing but high school diploma and then pay for you to go off to school...but i'd rather pay for it myself..then apply for a decent town..i was looking up prices for the academy and it will probably wat it cost me for 4-6 classes at county...unless i was missing something it looked like it would be like 3k? :idk: maybe i missread
