Default Serious Vibrations....

Well what happened to me is what happened to lucille. I wasnt on a dyno though and am nowhere near her hp, but same thing happened. I was doing a 3rd gear pull and heard a pop. Serious vibrations occured after this and I didnt what the heck it was. The car shifts completly fine, but vibration is HUGE whether the clutch was engadged or released when I would rev throughout the whole rpm. Well parts where changed such as axles, balance shafts taken out(recently), etc to try and locate the problem. After the shafts were taken out it still did it. So we took a look at the clutch. As soon as we seperated the tranny the piece that came off on lucilles car fell to the floor. My flexplate is warped and flywheel looks damaged as well. Here are some pictures...sorry for them being so big, but thought I would get the best wuality I could...dont mind my hairy legs either

Same piece poped out during a misshift 9 months back. I could not go into any gear, along with a horrible vibration. I used a hammer to bend the 3 rivets outward and took a brass punch and put it back in place. Once you bend the 3 rivets a bit farther out then the normal it will hold in place 10 times stronger.

Well I didnt want to bend anything so I just ordered a new flywheel. Will get rid of the POS Modular design

Agreed. Even if you weld or better attach this cover that has no buisness even being there in the 1st place, the modular design is another problem waiting to happen on big hp SRTs... The flexplate secures with 4 bolts, a weakness IMO. When you can lose this problem simply by getting a Fidanza Flywheel and eliminate the flexplate all together....

I am very fortunate I didn't sustain further damage, because this thing came apart on my car during some high boost testing at 600+ hp, and the car was moving incredibly fast at the top of 3rd, shifting into 4th when this damn thing flew apart.

what kinda vibrations do you guys speak of? i had a cm stage 4 four puck with aluminum flywheel before i broke my input shaft on my old trans. now i have the same clutch only with a steel flywheel in my new trans. i am having some serious vibration issues that i have never had before. it doesnt seem to matter if the clutch is disengaged or engaged. but when you rev the motor you can hear the clutch chatter and feel this really bad vibration in the front end. my boost gauge needle is going crazy because of it.

Yes whether my clutch was pushed in or released at any point when I revved the motor it would seriously vibrate throught the powerband. Dash, steering wheel, seats, mirrors, everything vibrated. It got its worst around 2k and mellowed out just a tiny bit, but was still vibrating real bad. My car shifted completly fine just was real bad vibrations. I of coarse didnt get on it hard with these vibrations of coarse. I suggest pulling it down and I bet you have the same issue as I have had.

so this dust cover just came off and that was your whole vibration issue? if that is the case with mine, can i ditch that cover all together?

Well it flung off and caused the vibrations yes. I think to fix it CM now welds the cover. I think you have to have it on there....doesnt it act as some sort of alignment to keep it from wabbleing or not? Anyone else chime in?

Yes, we are now welding that peice in place on the steel flywheels, our aluminum flywheels on the other hand have the centering peice machined into the flywheel (all one peice). As far as ditching that peice, that is totally up to you. I will say that if it were my car, I would bend the tabs out and tack weld the peice into place to ensure that the clutch is aligned correctly when installing it.

it was a replacement for one i purchased a while back. the other one had an aluminum flywheel but it was damaged when the input shaft broke. so i got the steel flywheel clutch as a replacement. i guess ive had that a little more than two or three weeks.

I installed my clutch in January..in February it did this. I couldnt take it out until recently due to just being busy with family and stuff. Not something that is easy to take apart to see whats up ya know? So maybe a months worth of driving.....

When was this re-design done? I never got to see my clutch before it was installed, so I'm curious what I have
