It's a great tool, it will not get old. As far as I know, still nothing like it for the price on the market. I have added the pocketlogger for a PDA since buying the Zeitronix so I don't have to lug around the laptop, and I no longer use the LCD.
So where is the actual zt-2 being hidden? I want to keep it from being cooked under the hood. Has anyone extended the wires from that 12 pt harness out long enough to go through the firewall and stash it inside the console?
Theres a couple of ways to do the install. I mounted mine under the dash pad and extended the wires thru the firewall. I bought a some wires already in a loom from an electronics shop to extend the Zeitronix wires....keeps thing nice an neat also.
I am going to extend the wires for the zt-2, the tach adapter and the map clamp so that it all sits inside the glove box and can be adjusted from inside the car. I am going to run all of these wires through the firewall where I already pushed in a grommet for an amp wire, so hopefully there will be enough room. Boost signal will as well, but the o2 will come up through the shifter cable rubber thing. I hope this is the last time I have to pull the console!!!
So far I have tapped into the TPS wire and added the tach adapter. I ran those 3 wires through the firewall along with enough wires for:
3 for boost signal
3 for Dasmopar map clamp
1 for signal wire from map wire (not sure if I can tie into the clamp unit)???
for a total of 10 wires going through the firewall. Tomorrow will be the boost signal and O2 sensor. My ramps are too high to drive onto so I will be using the jack.
If this works right, all of my wires and the one from the O2 sensor should pass through the console and sit inside there. We shall see.
Just another update, I ran the O2 cable through the rubber shifter panel. I can't get under the car to put in the sensor, but the big connector is waiting. I still need to get a small piece of rubber for the boost signal tap.
For the wires, they all went under the carpet up by the brake pedal and out the left side of the console. It all looks really nice and clean. The tach adapter will sit next to the e-brake and grounded there also. This is not a quick job by any means.
QUESTION: I understand how to install the dasmopar clamp, but am curious how to tie in the signal wire for the 'user signal'. Will I solder in a wire in between the map sensor on the intake and the clamp, or between the clamp and engine side? It would be the green/red wire of the factory map wires correct?

I ran mine through the same place, you might have to drop the downpipe to get the o2 sensor in though. I'm not sure on the mapsensor question, maybe someone else can give you the answer you're looking for.

You do not need to drop the downpipe to get the bung plugs out and install the wideband and the stock downstream 02 sensor.
I spent a good hour today doing that with some great help from a good buddy.
We never took the downpipe off the car and got the sensors uninstalled, and reinstalled in the pipe without any major problems... Just jack the front of the car way up to make it a bit easier.
I did just that. Jacked up the front, and put in a jack stand as back up, and put it in. Popped the heat shield and it is all done. The whole thing from start to finish took about 9 hours but I took my sweet time and did it to my best ability. You can't tell there are 90+ feet of wire under the hood-console!
Got it all going 100%! BUT only with the serial cable, not the serial to usb adapter. I obviously installed it correctly to get it to work, but I need a 'device driver' for the USB serial connector. I am a bit of a tech geek and have not figured it out. I tried installing a driver by letting Windows search for the best one, no luck. I tried having it look through the download folder & the program folder, no luck. The one last option is where you can choose the driver you want from a list but nothing fits the bill just right......
If anyone here is using a laptop and USB please let me know which driver you are using. I will tell you how if you don't.
Theres been some post's in the past about getting USB/DB9 adapters working correctly with software needing to see data via a com port. I can not remember the specifics but until someone else answers with a def fix I would contact Zeitronix help via the website, the guy there has been pretty good with helping me with some questions. I would also look on the web a little, for instance some OBDII software packages run on laptops and users need to use USB adapters in order to for things to work, solutions can't be too differant.
You also might want to look at what com port the usb adapter is using after it has been installed and then go into the Zeitronix software and change look at that com port, or change it (the USB adapter via the control panel applet) to use a specific port that the Zeitronix needs to see.
The one I bought from radio shack came with a cd with the driver on it.
I think I read your post and saw it worked right after. I will follow your lead and try just that.
turbojack: I appreciate your advise as well. I have contaced them and await their response. It is a driver issue. I cannot change the com port yet because the computer doesn't know what to do with the serial-usb cable. Once I get it figured out I will be able to use a more modern laptop. Until then I have to deal with a dying battery!
