Default Worth $500?

I would think I could build my own kit, non-progressive of course, for probably less than $100 (It would be a primitive kit with way less function than the very nice kits)... I am curious as to why these kits are so expensive? Now, keep in mind I do know why and how these kits are so important, and will be getting one as soon as I get another few mods done.

I know companies are trying to recover testing, R&D, and production costs and such, but a lower price would yield more sales (one would think), unless you are having trouble keeping up with production, in which case I would understand not wanting higher sales.

I am just wondering why something that seems so necessary, especially for us SoCal guys with supercrap gas, would be so high priced. Many people are gonna spend that money on other mods. And I am not knocking you guys making and selling these before anyone gets that idea, because the kits that are sold are all very nice. Anyways, thanks for listening...

Hi, I dont take offense, I can give an answer. The kit that you can build for $100 would be a very basic kit. Our most basic kit retails for about $219. You would consider our tech support and lifetime limited warranty plus proven design (special pump, great fittings, etc).

In terms of our kits that are $500 +. There is a great deal of cost involved. You mentioned the engineering and R & D which actually is a small part. Our particular controller for example requires a tremendous amount of hand work. Our cables are built by hand, the aluminum enclosures are modified to our exact specs, there are silk screens, setup costs, PCB costs, assembly costs, testing, calibration, etc. These bring the cost higher. But you end up with a solid product. You have to also factor in the Rent we pay at the warehouse as well as the city taxes and CAM, product liability insurance, general liablity insurance, shipping costs and product costs. The next thing you have to keep in mind that when you sell your product to a dealer, they get a 30% discount. That needs to be factored into the price when its all said and done.

Alot of customers dont realize how difficult it is to run a business and the costs involved. People are willing to pay for our product, we are not known for being the cheapest but when you compare the product you will see why.

I dont have any desire to make my company the largest or the one that sells the most. I would rather continue to build cutting edge unique products for a select group of customers. Its a quality vs quantity thing.

Any questions about our products I would be glad to offer. If you look at our selection you will see that we are probably the only company that has kits in every price range from $220 to $1000 or more. Something for everyone

Very good point... I will just buy instead of build one anyways, I was just curious. I know what it takes to run a business, it is always harder than just being an employee, or at least more time consuming. Thanks for the input, and quick reply!
