Significant mods (your wiper blades dont count): S3r, JMB ultimate intake,JMB hard pipes, Kinetic 60mm TB, ED wuss IC, Maxxfab 3" 02 housing, MaxxFab DTM.
Kit Maker/Type: Coolingmist
Nozzle size(s)/Location: Dual M5 in UPP, 2" from IC outlet and 2" before the TB.
On point/ramp % / Full point: On point 5 psi, full point 13psi
Fuel octane/additive used: ( specify summer/winter blend): Euro 95 (same as US 93) Probably winter gas
Environment(Temps/Altitudes): Outside temps from 30 degrees to 70 degrees
Results summary:
HOM holding to redline in all gears, 0 Kr, timing advance while in HOM stays pretty steady at around 35 . Flow setting is set to 8 on the coolingmist controller. non HOM these settings bog the car down pretty bad. I am using HEET windshield washer concentrate with no added water which is about 85% meth. I am going to add some water to the mix to make 60/40 and see if I still get good results. Also need to wait till summer and see if the summer/winter gas makes a big difference.
10 pulls also most back to back. 0 KR on all pulls except one with 1.2KR after three consective pulls. I wanted to push the car to make sure it was good to go. I think I may have heat socked the poor stock IC. I am running 25psi to lean out the tune with meth. From what I have experienced running to rich of a tune on meth can cause KR. 4 of the pulls where from 2500rpm in 3rd gear all the way through 5th gear. The rest where 3500rpm pulls in 3rd through 5th.
Just wanted to update, since I have not really posted in a while in this thread. I continue to have no problems hold HOM in all gears. I have noticed a few things over the last few months.
1. You need to reset your computer on occasion. I noticed that my boost levels would slightly drop over time. My guess would be that the computer is trying to regain control of boost. Also short and long term fuel trims can be effected, since my guess would be the PCM is not sure where all the extra fuel is coming from and trying to make adjustments.
2. Running around with the red button on is great, but it is nice to be able to drive the car without having the meth kit on. My solution was simple. I turn off my meth kit, set dab at 0. This gave me good daily drivablity without constantly using meth. Boost is around 19-20psi similar to when I was on the stock S3 WG. When I want more power it is simple. Turn meth kit on, switch to dab 3, and push the red button.
3. Super fine tuning start and full points does a lot for performance. Don't be scared to make slight changes now and then. Be no means am I using a proven method, but on occasion I rely on the HP calculator on my Areoforce gauge. I can pick up 25-35hp, just from these small adjustments in start, full and tune settings. I have tested it against other consistant running cars and the results are there. Some times it car make close to a car difference in performance.
Overall the car has been impressive with the kit holding HOM. Power levels are great and it is fun to not lose races all that often.

when u say u have an injector in the intercoler were do u have it on the IC

I got this kit in November of 2006 but never had the chance to install it until July of this year. I could never get it to hold HOM and tried a few different types of additives - ranging from various mixes of windshield washer fluid to 100% methanol.
I was using an M5 nozzle that was mounted to a 90* elbow inside the charge pipe so the nozzle was spraying with the airflow. I had to turn up the pump pressure to almost full as there was a fair amount of pulsation in the line and the nozzle was not spraying evenly. I mounted the pump and tank in my trunk and had to go to Home Depot to buy enough hose to reach the nozzle while I waited for Chance at Devilsown to send me some of the good stuff.
I got the hose from Chance a few days after I did the install, but decided to leave the home depot hose installed and see how it went. Needless to say, the hose didn't last long. It was rated at 200psi for corrosive materials, but I think the hot oil leaking out of the stock airbox killed the line.
I replaced the hose and decided to remove the 90* elbow from the charge pipe and just tap the nozzle the way Devilsown recommends. This time, I used the M7 nozzle chance had sent me with the kit. I had about 1/4 tank of water left from my testing so I just filled it up with 100% meth for about a 70/30 mix.
The car held HOM through all gears, however, with too much load, it kicks me out (2500 rpms in 3rd gear). There's really no point in going WOT with that kind of load, so it works for me.
What I did find is that my next tank of gas was not that great, and it was kicking me out, so I went to walmart and got a couple of cans of octane booster (15 points/can - 1.5 octane) and threw them into a full tank of gas. The car held HOM with no problems after that.
I am running pretty rich though which means the car is not making as much power as it could, so I'm starting to play with the boost. Right now, the car is set at about 26psi falling to about 20 at redline. I have a boost leak at the surge valve which needs to be fixed with an aftermarket BOV and block off plate. I think I should be able to hold a little more boost to redline with that fixed.
At 26psi, the afr's hit about 11.1:1 at about 4500 rpms and then dip deep down into the 10's all the way to redline.
Up until a few days ago, I thought I would have to go out and get a dual nozzle progressive kit to hold HOM, but I guess I got lucky and figured out the right combination.
It boils down to tuning at the end of the day and a little bit of luck.
Thanks Chance for a fantastic kit and even better support!!!!
Environment(Temps/Altitudes): 3 seasons in NewEngland. Spring, summer, fall. From one extreme to the other...
Max Pump cutout; 150 psi
Check valve / Sol (location); 45psi cracking check valve located about 12 inches upstream from the nozzle.
Results summary: I use 40/60 Methanol / water or 50/50. I have also used -20 deg cheap windshield washer fluid (methanol based). Never had any problems holding HOM even while I was road tuning the ramp for a week or so. I have never use isopropal alcohol except to remove tree sap from my sunroof. Below 92 octain fuel and I can not hold HOM in the top of 3rd or 4th
Update... 5/2/07 mileage now 25,000
This season I added a ED beast intercooler, DCR mod on the S3 turbo and manifold and maxxfab down pipe. With the current WI settings the car wil not hold HOM reliably to redline in 3rd or 4th. Giong to try the Coolingmist S-HSV, Varicool, 2 CM nozzles, and cooler plugs. Will post the results...
Update 5/12/07
No problem now. holds HOM just fine.
Ended up using two nozzles a M5 and a M2. The M5 is in the exit/cold side pipe of the intercooler. The M2 is in the up-pipe just before the intake air temp sensor. Currently using the prototype S-HSV set-up from coolingmist. soon to be replaced by the production unit.
Hey man, I currently have the stage 3 setup, with quite a few other mods including the AEM water meth injection. I can't seem to figure out why my HOM option is not working. I use the sunoco 94octane fuel. I tried the medium jet and now the large jet for the W/A injection. The larger jet is working better, and my HOM stays on longer on full throttle, but shuts off after a bit. What changes do I make to keep it running consistantly without shutting off? If you know, please tell me.
