Default Relay testing.

Anyone now how to test a 12vdc 30/40A relay to see if it is good?

Take an LED and hook up to the 87 PIN, give 30 12V power, give 86 12V power and when you ground the 85 the led will light up. remove the ground from 85 the LED will turn off.

What if I dont hve a LED.
Can I just give it power and see if it clicks.

the relay should click as well, I cant say that would be as accurate but it should work. our relays click as it closes the circuit.

u also should use a ohm meter cause just because it clicks doesnt mean its still good, poor or dirty contacts in the relay will cause it not to make connection

I agree if you have an ohm meter, test across the coil first, (black and white) (You won't get a direct reading since there is resistance through the coil but as long as it doesn't read open then you are good to go.)Then test between the blue and yellow and manually close the contact if it rings through it is good.

Relays can click and still be bad.

Relays can easily be tested this way.
