Default Just curious on different things to use as methanol

I was wondering could you also use different sources of methanol. for instance, windshield wiper fluid that contains methanol? or race fuel that you use on RC cars that has methanol and nitro?

Also what happens if you run straight water?

Sounds like a good question for a vendor. I think the vendors on here sell a pre-mixed meth/water mix in gallon jugs ready to go. Some people run washer fluid some run water and heet in the yellow bottle. You can go the race meth route. I don't think straight water will give you the same performance benefits the water/meth mix does, if you can run straight water that I don't know. Coolingmist is really helpful if you e-mail them they will answer your question in about an hour or so.

Just go to Home Depot or someplace and buy some "Methyl-Hydrate". It's exactly the same thing (Pure Methanol).

what ever fluid you get tuned at you should stick with.. an if you use str8 water you will kill your car... the water is only there to despurs a lil heat its the meth that stops detenation an gives you power..

Hmmm...the last time I checked the water itself got rid of the detonation and help reduce knock, methanol being higher octane helps with the power.

adn straight water will not destroy your motor, or harm it in any way just gives you cooler intake and exhaust temps....

I was in Napa today buying wiper fluid for my trunkmount kit and when the guy found out why I was buying 7 gallons of wiper fluid he asked me if I would like 100% meth si i said yes and 30 bucks later I have 7 gallons of meth. I don't know if running water/Straight meth will yield better results than wiper fluid yet but, this weekend I will find out.

Use the yellow HEET if need small amounts of methanol

Use washer fluid if need a little methanol and water

Use VP M1 if need large quantities of methanol.

Only use as pure a methanol as you can find, VP M1 is a good example of near pure methanol, VP M3 is an example of methanol with additives that will over time cause problems with you're W/A injections systems components.

Only use distilled water and not tap water.

The use of tap water over time will allow for the build up of small particles that will cause issues. Systems with small nozzles or jets are more prone to having problems with tap water.

Only through testing will the user be able to tell what mix of how much water to methanol works best. Typically, straight distilled water is not as good as a mix, and 100% methanol is wasted if not tuned for = start with a 80/20 water methanol mix and then test and then up the methanol ratio in 10% increments till theres no gains by adding more.

I found that I had great results with a 70/30 mix. I'm in NJ, it was summer time and had access to 93 octane pump gas.........my car running in south cali for instance might have needed closer to a 50/50 mix for the same results.

alright right now im using the coolingmist methanol which is a 50/50 mixture. How would I increase the methanol to a 60/40 or 70/30 mixture?

The easy way to reduce the methanol content is to cut the pre-mix with distilled water.

The easy way to increase the methanol content is to add using a bottle yellow HEET or by getting some VP M1 and adding a little in the pre-mix.

50/50 is typically used since its an easy number to remember and it requires no real thought. My opinion is that for most setups its easy to test to see what works best by doing the cutting since tuning skills or devices are not needed. Sometimes though testing (again this is easy) a 70/30 mix works best and a 50/50 mix is a waste of methanol since theres no gain by the use of the addtional methanol, but if using a pre-mix works well for you and you are happy and all thats involved is pouring it in then that works too.

If the car is not tuned for methanol (additional/added fuel) then a greater content by volume of methanol to water may not do anything for performance, it may even hurt slightly......thats why using 100% methanol versus a 50/50 may not show any improvements.

IMO stick with you're pre-mix to keep things simple and enjoy W/A injection but for the sake of understanding how things work realize that theres no hard set in stone rule for mix content that can be applied to eveyone and just like donuts, cake, and candy.....too much is not always best.

After you run out of pre-mix, for giggles try and make you're own mix starting with just distilled water and then start cutting in the methanol in 10% increments to see what you're setup responds best to.

The pure meth/water mix worked almost just the same, My afr's didn't change much between the two but, i still have no knock and it pulled just as hard. Until I borrow my buddy's scan-gauge I won't know exactly how much difference there is.

for some reason I though maybe it was pre-bottled. so I understand why you can't get pictures of the product now can't wait to get my system fully working...
