Bottom line is I have 5 vehicals that drink premium fuel. At soon to be $4.35 a gal it's time to do something. Need to run these on cheapo-fuel!
methanol is no longer a cost effective sollution. As prices there are going up as shipping costs rise. Window washer belongs in the washer res and heet belongs in the fuel tank in the winter.
Not looking to get more HP just want to replace premium fuel with cheapo-fuel.
So isopropyl? Affordable and mixes well with H2O.
All comments are as always more than welcome. I know a few of you have tried this. Please share your experiances be they good or bad.
Let leave the delivery system out of the picture for a bit as I will be using components to make up a test system using IDC hopefully and RPM. The Mitsu GSX or my SRT-4 will be the first vehical.
Yea, we did testing with it but i can't seem to find the graphic. Isopropyl is just a tad over water. For what it cost i would just run staight water. Since the gains where so scarce.
Very good information. Chance, thank you.
I think for this project I may start with water. The Iso maybe just to keep stuff from freezing in early spring or late fall.
Chance. your graph show a pretty good gap between Ethyl and baseline in the lower rpm range.
I take it these were consecutive runs. Just pruging lines and swapping tanks. I always wanted to try that.
Cool.
that chart doesnt make sense to me. Why do they come back together at 4500rpms?
Last I checked Methanol here was less than $4 a gallon, and isopropyl was ~$10+ a gallon. Methanol has the highest octane also.
Methanol cost me $55 for a 5 gallon pail last year. This year they want $70. I can get it much cheaper from Burke, our shops fuel supplier, but the catch is I need to buy a 55 gallon drum. Just don't have a place to store that much flamable liquid on my property.
The chemical supply stores in my area blame the small quantity cost on shipping. Haz-mat and such. Wish it was only $4 because it works real well.
Man they are raping you! I buy methanol from a semi-local Napa store for 3.99$ a gallon, but, it is a local supply demand type of thing, not very many Napas sell meth.

look in the phone book for a propane dealer, they put methanol in the empty tanks to absorb moisture. They should have there own 55gallon drum and should sell you 5gallons worth for a good price.

This is a dyno on a 4cly turbo diesel overseas, Totaly different then cars here, no electronics, mechanical diesel pump. It's just to show you the power differences between the mixes. Also these things have tiny and I mean tiny turbos on them that's why the drop off because the diesel is a low reving motor and we took it past it's powerband on the dyno which would have been around 4000rpms.
Hey dvldoc. Been awhile. I was thinking it kinda looked like a fuso. Anyway I'm going to give it a try. If anything the iso mix will keep the water from freezing here in new england. Remember I'm just trying to stay away from 92+ octaine fuel. Not going to the track to race on 86 pump fuel.
Now the delivery system.
Was thinking of creating a map with injector duty cycle and RPM. Initial onset would be intake pressure triggered.
Question presently is would this be enough info to base a good map/ramp on? And next would come... port injection or a couple smaller nozzles in the up-stream?

5 cars all running premium? My heart bleeds for you. Sell one of the cars for gas. Getting tired of people and the price of gas thing. Is it really that bad? Have you had to go without eating? Did you have to sell any body parts? My car to fill up (srt-4) from a year ago is about $7 more. It is something when you add it up at the end of the year but just think about the things you have you don't really need. Sorry had to vent!
