Hey all, I just figured out that I have at least one bent exhaust valve. Its not bent that bad so I think I should just be able to buy new ones and put them in without any machine work to the head.
The local dealership wants $40 per valve! I was wondering if anybody knows where to get stock replacement exhaust valves for cheap? Id rather just get oem valves but if I have to pay $40 a piece then ill be getting a set of BC ones for $140 instead.
And how'd they bend? If they bent good enough it might have hurt the guides some.
We are not 100 percent sure they are bent, number 4 cylinder has about 20 pounds compression and it leaks out the exhaust, we would like to replace both in cylinder number 4 just to be sure. If they are bent we bought the head from someone in Pennsylvania and it shipped to us that way. I should have the head off tomorrow to find out what the problem is, we just got a lower end rebuild done and was told the head only had about 45 thousand miles on it and didn't think it needed rebuilt.

We need at least 2, but 3 would be nice to have an extra. As my dad posted ^^^ we are not 100% sure they are bent, but the top of the valves on #4 seem to sit a bit lower than the other exhaust valves and air is leaking out the exhaust port during a leakdown test with the valves closed. So we assume that is the issue. Hopefully the guides are ok, we are going to check that once we get them out. Not sure how they were bent, they may have been that way when we bought the head or they may have been bumped while we were building the engine (2.5 hybrid, 80s turbo dodge block w/ SRT head)

i have a complete head with all internals if interested , just had it checked valves , guides , rocker arms all great shape .
We have new stock valves in stock as well. $20 each plus shipping. Cleaned and machined used ones for $10 each plus shipping.

If you have the valve cover off can you move the rocker arms any?
Do you have a part number for the valves?
I have the head off and removed one of the exhaust valves, it's definitely a bent valve... there was no damage to the seat or the guide. My son tells me that the SRT 4 had some issues with valves bending, I'll have to look that up to see exactly how often this happens. I think I'm going to replace the two exhaust valves in cylinder 4 and see how it goes, since the only thing that was damaged is the valve I should be ok.
srt-4's dont normally have issues with valves bending.
Yeah he misunderstood what I told him. I had heard that in either 03 or 05 there was a batch of factory defect heads that had something wrong in the valvetrain (I think it was bent valves actually).
Not sure how this valve was bent, it appears that only one of them is bent but we are replacing both to be safe
Yes, the 05's had a few bent valves from the factory but if that was the case they would've never left the lot. Chrysler put out a bulletin to inspect them before delivering them to the customer.
