valve seals?? smoke?

ok i just recently bought a srt-4 for my daily driver i had to install a cylinder head/ turbo on the car at which point. i did new head gaskets and upper gaskets. i never did the valve seals tho since the head was already complete.

the cars been on the road for the last week driving great only issue is after a long idle like sitting at stop lights when i take off i am getting allot of oil smoke coming from the exhaust.

would it be the valve seals? or turbo seal. i have another turbo to try but i am debating about putting new valve seals in at the same time.

DCR 2.6 stroker, DCR Promod Avenger head

in Progress PT5857 and PT7175 Compound turbo set up.

No valve seals usually cause smoking when you first start the car after sitting for a while. Sounds like you are having a Pcv issue.

either maybe pcv or bad turbo is it when under boost and idle???

installed another turbo today the smoke is gone.

there was allot of side to side play in the turbo. but none in and out.

i have to drive it some more. to make sure but so far no smoke.

That was ur prob especially with side to side play and the smokings gone so u knw its fixed!

smoke started again.....

im waiting on pcv. to try that.

im getting smoke if i sit at idle for awhile then get onto it ( basically clearing it from the exhaust) but i also get it after cruising at hwy speed for awhile and then get back into the throttle.

im going to do a leak down test this weekend. aswell as install a catch can.

i ahve brand new valve seals i just dont want to pull the cams but im tempted to know if thats the issue or not.

i hope its not rings i just rebuilt the top end. hoping that the bottom end was good.

My best guess is PCV, did you use a new valve and a catch can when you installed the head?

I was helping Kyle with his car today (I'm Tom from nc 95sohcgreen) and his whole intake was full of oil and it basically poured out of his turbo inlet when I pulled it off because the pcv valve was leaking, pressurizing the valve cover and pushing the oil through the other line into the intake. Put the boost leak tester on it and it was losing most of the pressure through the valve cover.

I have a catch can, new pcv and a $7 check valve from ebay and it solved most of the oil consumption problems with my car.

Some good reading: Thes engines need vacuum all of the time...

i had oil in the intercooler piping from the pcv valve so i gotdid the valve and ran a hose to the side and the same thin to the intake side that gose to the head.

Mine was doing the exact same thing after I threw on a salvage yard head. The exhaust ports were covered in oil. It was the valve seals.

.....but def need to let your crankcase breathe, because that could be half or all of your problem also
