So i got tired of having the 2.0L cams in my car and have decided to put the oem cams back in. I need to know which way to put the stock cams back in the head. I know intake from exhaust cams. I more need to know which way the dowel pins sit. Like is the intake dowel pin facing upward or downward from the factory, same question for the exhaust cam. I have both cams installed right now with the dowel pins on each cam, upward and the car runs like complete shit. Any help would be great, thanks.
Also interested in this. I haven't checked the stock cams since I took them out, but is there any way to tell the difference between the exhaust cam and the intake cam?
I just read skullingaxes post on the install of 2.0's and towards the end i believe it was mentioned that the stock cams sit in the head with both pins facing downwards.
I got them both facing up right now and the car isnt even driveable. I mean it starts and runs but it idles like a cammed v8 race car. I guess i gotta tear it all apart again tomorrow and see how it goes.
believe me im tired of my 2.0's the more i think about it the the more i think i got pt cruiser cams and not neon 2.0 cams.. so im putting BC stage 2's.
as for the stock cams the dowels (or holes) on the cams are staight up. the cam gears have to be on the 2.4L side. yes our cam gears have a 2.0 L and a 2.4 L side. make sure cylinder 1 cam lobes make the (A) shape where both lobes if you drew a imaginary line from the lobes they come to a point. like the letter A. both holes are facing up.
now for the cam sensor since the 2.0's are different set up the magnet needs to be installed the right way. now if you do put it upside down the car will idle like shit. rmp's will jump up and down and the car will lope heavily. lol did it before. there should be lines on that magnet look on the FSM you should see how the magnet is suppose to be set up. your magnet might be upside down..

I found this in another thread: "NOTE: when you take the belt off the gears will slightly is misalign, when you reassemble, just make sure the dowels on the cams are facing STRAIT DOWN. and the the Holes on top of the cams are facing strait up."
So yeah, the holes are facing straight up, and the dowels are facing directly down. In the 2.0l cams, IIRC, one dowel is facing up and one dowel is facing down.

Fischy good pic! yea the holes are pointed straight up the dowels for the cam gears are pointed down in which the 2.4L side of the cam gears will fit right into them.
Ok so just to clarify, the holes on the intake cam are facing straight up and the holes on the exhaust cam are facing up and both dowel pins are facing downward. Sounds good. I'm gonna tear it down again tomorrow.
Thanks guys
