Thanks for the props turbo2oh!

I would agree that $450 for a head is a great price. But I will also say that the porwork looks ok, but I can tell that the porter is not familiar with our platform. Not knocking the work, but ideally you would never port match the intake side unless you have an after market intake manifold (stock one can't outflow the anything larger than ~ the stock port size) and the port match on the exhaust side eliminates some of the built-in anti-reversion that is supposed to be there....

hmm perhaps i miss spoke in a previous reply. it wasn't 450 including the valves springs and retainers. 450 was purely for the port work valve job b cutting for larger valves and assembly.

i paid out the ass for valve train parts just like everyone else.

a853rox u are correct when u say he is that familiar with the srt4. his main work would be v8s, especially mustangs. but he does the head work for 2 major shops here in southern cali so i figure it was worth it to check it out.

intake is ok for me because my intake manifold is port matched to the gasket as well. i don't know about the exhaust side but there wasn't huge amounts taken off that side. just mostly a lot of cleanup and flash removal.

i still feel like the work was well worth the price i paid. just figured if there were any guys out there looking for some work and are on a tight budget this might help them out.

as long as he or anybody else with gasket matched exhaust ports is running a manifold that has large ports then the gasket by approx an 1/8" it will be alright (preferably on the bottom side of the port). and to the OP.......... esentially what ur intake manifold runners are shaped like now is an hour glass because i know that its not ported all the way in to it to the size of the gasket. so its only going to flow as much as its widest cross sectional area can and im guessing that probably about 3" into ur intake manifold from the mounting flange side. theres nothing wrong with gasket matching the intake side either but u will lose some velocity and hense some low end get up and go by doing so. i do agree with u bob about the intake manifold and gasket matched ports. there no point in going that big on the ports if ur running the stock intake (even if its ported) because its not going to be able to flow as much as ur heads. i did matts head this way and i told him the same thing so now im building him a custom intake to go along with his head. as for the OP's port work........... well for the machining port work that its a good price and it does look decent but there could be a little more atteneion to detail. (but then again it was only 450.00) so u can t ask for to much u know, well thats my .02 on that.

i had some mishaps with receiving the right parts for the valve train so my head was at his shop for 3-4 weeks but that wasn't his doing. once i got the parts to him it was done in a week but its hard to gauge cause the port work was done with in the first 4 days and then it sat there well i waited for the right sized and style valves to be shipped back to me. then a day for the 5 angle and working the seats. then they (BC) forgot to send me my retainers so i had to wait to get those . when i did it was another day to pick up the head.

Well considering I have full DCR valve train it was pretty pricey. Full DCR valve train $700ish and port work was $850 I think but I don't remember since at the last minute I decided to go with the full race port and combustion chamber work.

Well I looked at the thread they were in, the thread was still there but the pic's weren't so I don't know what happened. Its probably for the best to just forget about that hack job the Kelly Machine Shop did.
