Default Need Help On Taking Head Off

I'm a little stuck ATM. All the head bolts are out, but it seems to be stuck somewhere on the passenger side (timing belt area) now, do I need to take out that PITA MM bracket in order to get the head off? I don't see anything that could be attached to the head in that area.

Thanks in advance

Yes take it off and get it out of the way. Did you remove the idler pulley? That bolts into the head, plus there are two bolts that bolt the plastic backing plate to the head as well, did you remove them?

Ahhh ok. No, I haven't take of the idler pulley or the plastic backing plate. It was getting pretty dark out so I couldn't really tell.

Thanks Matt.

yea that bracket bolts up to the block and the head so it needs to be taken out 4 15mm head bolts. don't forget the grounding cables that are also on the head too. the driver side and passenger side as well.

Awsome, thanks again fellas. I also left the exhaust manni on, just took out that one bolt for the support brace, didn't feel like messing with the heat shield/ex manni bolts.

Should have it out Sunday, I'll post pics.

Yea when I first took my head off I took it with the exh manny, it does make it easier to take off with it out of the car, course after ward I didnt put back on the heat shield it just gets in the way, and it never hurt anything with it off.

without the upper heat shield the plastic under the wiper arms will start to curl and crack pretty badly....i reccomend that you tilt the motor forward a tad can be done with a strap around the top of the block from core support around the back and back to core support...will give you a better point of view to hone and prep the block for pistons....anyone ever use the mopar replacement rod and piston set? do the rings come pregapped or do they have to be filed? i was a heavy line chrysler tech and never once had to use them they just put new short blocks in....

I never had that problem, and I have had it off for months, both driving on and off the track. As far as the pistons on rods, I didnt go with stock replacements due to upgradeing to a bigger turbo, I went with BC rods and CP pistons. As far as I know no rings come pre gapped, plus its always better to check the gaps.
