Default Headgasket install?

I figured this would be the best place to post this, basically I think my headgasket is blown.. Like a dumba$$ I forgot to tighten the silver thermostat cap back on all the way when I was checking my coolant so it overflowed and my temp gauge shot up into the red and started dinging. I stopped to tighten the cap back down and add water... I'm going to do a compression test to make sure first. But I can rev the car up to around 1500-2000 rpms and I get a stumble, also randomly the car will go crazy rich on the wideband (10.0) and sounds like a lawnmower plus throw blue smoke out the exhaust but only for a few seconds then it'll go back to normal. It throws a code P0201 which is an issue with injector 1, so I swapped the injectors around but still throw the same code. I can reset the computer and it'll run fine for around 30 mins then it'll do the samething. I checked my oil and it looks to me like it does have some water in it, I did see a few bubbles on the dipstick. Which thus also points to blown headgasket. Now my question is how hard is this to replace?? I've never done this before..but I do have some mechanical skills (installed my agp turbo, dtec fc, b&b exhaust, etc..) Any help would be appreciated..and maybe uncommon(c) can give you a HJ for helping

in all seriousness, the head gasket isn't all that hard to do ... while you're in there, if you have the money & want to upgrade, I would consider:

TKMS 5-layer headgasket
cams ... 2.0 cams are really cheap (25-50 bucks at a junkyard)
cam gears ... fidanzas are only $155 shipped on ebay
ARP headstuds ... only $125 from TKMS
new OEM timing belt
new OEM timing belt tensioner

to change the headgasket you'd:

remove the turbo & exhaust manifold
remove the intake mani
remove the 3 motor mounts (middle one is a bitch) and support the motor with a jack & piece of wood
remove the harmonic balancer
remove the timing belt covers
remove the timing belt
unbolt the head
reverse for install

agreed. with the head off, drop if off at a shop and have it pressure tested. also, get the surfaces decked for a proper job.

before you get into that tho, i would change the oil and coolant, then see how it runs.

Couldn't help myself after seeing your post the other day... I would love to upgrade the cam's and all but don't really have the funds available right now but I'll keep all that in mind when I do get a chance to upgrade. Sounds like there is a good bit involved with changing the headgasket, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have too much trouble with everything except for the motor mounts and the timing belt, I've never taken the timing belt off of anything But I do have a daily driver so the SRT could sit for a few weeks..hell thats what its been doing anyway since all this started. What about other gaskets? Should I replace my intake mani gasket? And would I have to get the a timing belt tensioner? And how much would it cost to just FLY you down and lend your helping hand

I'm gonna change the oil and coolant today, I hope that helps or at least lets me know if my headgasket is blown... I'll be sure to post the results.

HA, pay for my plane ticket, food, blow & hookers & I'll come down and help

the stock intake mani gasket is like $3 at the dealership, it would only make sense to replace it ... I had a constant problem blowing out the stock gasket on my car (was replacing the gasket every couple weeks) so I ended up buying the boomba intake mani gasket ... the gasket will never blow out as it's about a 3/8" thick and on the plus side, the intake mani stays pretty cool

if you're doing the timing belt, you might as well do the tensioner ... would you want to tear everything apart again due to a tensioner going out due to wear & tear? all that time & work could be saved by picking up a $60 part

Hahaha... Sure come on down we'll get ya some of those ATL skanks!! Anyway you make a valid point, no sense in not replacing the intake mani gasket might have to check out one from boomba at least I can be sure thats not gonna happen. I did change my oil out today and it didn't look like I had any water in it at all. Gonna change the coolant afterwhile, just got done taking my intercooler off as I am selling it.

I'm starting to wonder if the headgasket is the problem? Could this be my Dtec brain going bad? Seems kind of odd that I can reset my computer and the problem goes away... I did wiggle some of the wires running to the dtec box and nothing really happened so it doesn't seem as if the wires have a short in them. But I did check all of my soldering points and they seem fine, I keep all of that wrapped up extra tight with electrical tape so those shouldn't be any issue.
