Default Head gasket failure/replacement

So I suspected a head gasket leak, short drive and pulling the plugs show coolant in every cylinder. Engine has 1640 miles on it, with the first 1300 being on 8psi and the rest at 15psi. Block was said to be straight by the machine shop and the head I didn't check since it was brand new from DCR. I used a stock replacement felpro MLS head gasket dry without any of those copper sprays. The only explanation I have for this is that the head studs came loose, which would explain the coolant in every cylinder.

I know there are plently of people running 400+ on the stock head gasket. So what is the standard for head gasket replacement for someone looking to make 500+? Should I go with the same gasket and one of those sprays or something different? The only other gasket I know of is DCR's 5 layer and cometic's MLS.

Looking for reccomendations to keep this from happening again.

APR head studs, realtune 5 layer HG, spray the copper on both sides and have the head checked even if it's from DCR you never know.

^^^ stock studs are fine, I went 11.03 @ 129mph with them making 407whp and 447wtq on Nigels dyno, completly stock longblock & realtune BW stage 3. But once you remove them like the OP has, I wouldn't recomend re-using them.

cool so i should have been good. Maybe I didn't give it enough time before upping the boost. My butt dyno guess is that is was around 350-400 at 15psi, maybe to much.

Whats the difference between realtunes and dcr's headgasket? Just curious.

i reused my stock ones 3 times and went 10.9/128 then put on a bigger turbo but never got to the track

arp studs and stock gasket will do fine

going to get ahold of them and see if they can get it here by the weekend, if not just going to get a stocker and spray it with that copper stuff. The other question I had was I went with ARP's torque specs for their stud kit. Is that what everyone else is doing or going a little higher? Also not sure if my stud kit has the bigger washers that I have heard about, anyone know the size difference between the two?

i tq'd mine to 92ft/lbs and never had a issue.....and i sprayed both sides of the HG with copper spray.... and also the washer issue was chamged many years ago... if you still have the boc call arp and see if they can run the lot number to see when it was manufactured

What copper spray are people using?

Do you spray the entire head gasket with it or just certain areas?

You torqued yours to 92 and left it there or did you do the extra half turn also that it reccomends?

The copper spray I used on other cars was available at the local parts store in a aresol can. Spray the whole gasket, both sides.

i tq'd it 30,60 92 then the 1/4 turn with a real ratchet......

there are many factors that can cause a head gasket to fail...is the tuning spot on?
