Default Crane 14 questions

Sorry if these are repeats but the search filter wont let you search for words under 3 characters so things like s3, 14s, etc are hard to add to the search.

To the question, The more I read the more I am leaning towards Crane 14's and fidanza gears for my Mopar S3. I hope to go with a 47-49 lbs big wheel in the near future and it seems that these would be a good cam to make up for the lag. I just want to make sure that I wont sacrifice anything up top! Do 14s sound like a reasonable streetable but still kick in the pants solution?

And I reallllly dont want to change the valve springs! I have the tools to do it on the head assuming my universal Valve spring compressor will bolt up. But my god! last time I did this on an MX6 it was a nightmare! I have no idea how many of those little retainer clips I lost, they would pop out and seating them was just a PITA! So do the 14s, need to have the springs upgraded? I am limited by the S3 PCM redline and dont plan to rev any higher.

The Crane #14 cams are a good choice. They will improve the low end and midrange power of the motor. With the adjustable gears you can tune them in for where you want the power. Also keep in mind the 2.4L is more of a low end and mid range grunt torque monster and doesn't really like to rev high in stock form. You will have to upgrade your valve springs with these cams. If this is something you don't want to do then don't upgrade the cams.

I am actually looking at the 12s now. I dont need the turbo to spool any faster it already spools fast enough. I think the 12's give a nice good gain through the spectrum.

Not to sound like an ass but I am stuck at a 6500 rev limit. I dont need to go higher, I have no plans to go higher, so why upgrade the valve springs for mild cams? Its not that I wont do it. But I dont like doing it and if I dont have to I am not going too. Everywhere I look 12-14 valve springs is not required.

crane 14 i belive are intended for a larger turbo.for spool. S3 is still pretty small.. go with the 12's.you will get more power.. or 2.0l cams.. the 12's have equal duration and lift.. shouldnt loose spool and get some top end.. or you good go cheap and get the 2.0s.. which arent bad..

annd the stock springs and retainers are good till crane 16's..
