I'm replacing my head gasket and i noticed the cams had some rust on them. I tried to clean them and i found pits under the rust and i was told that i'm going to need new cams. I was also told that i have to get new rockers and lifters with the cams also. Is that true? Is that the only option? I found a set of stock used cams but i need to find out if the info is correct.
Also while im in to the motor, what are some things i should do while im there. This is my daily so i'm not looking to build the motor but if the are somethings that are a pain to get to when they break it my make sence to fix it now. Any suggestion please.
Thats strange about the rust maybe just moisture in the cover after cool down. Some of these guy may not do it but depending on miles on engine its good to replace lifters with cams to make sure every thing seats right.
So it's not a good idea to buy used cams that are still in good shape because how they my seat with the lifters? Any suggestions on what i should do while i have the motor out. Anything in the transmission i should fix while it's out?
Probably should have posted this in the cylinder head & valvetrain section. There's a thread over there about rust/pitting on cams you should look at.
