Default Cam Question (Crower Stage 1)

I was wondering, wat cams would go good with my setup? Don't want to go all out, would like that cool lobe sound too. I was thinkin Crower Stage 1. I'm sticking with the stock turbo for a long while, and i would like some more top end power. My mods are on my sig. And wat other mods would i need towards tuning and support mods. Let me know, thanks!

This is my daily driver, fyi.

Default 12's

I am staying stock turbo as well. As many have heard me say I got 12's waiting to go in. Most ppl recommended the 12's for DD and small turbo. 2.0's are also a good choice and much more affordable $50 as to $440.

Hope this gives you something to chew on,
Slyder

If I recall correctly the lift and duration were why. Look for threads by TEX he is very knowledgeable on cams. I may not give the best and technical aspect of them. Plus with the BC 2 & BC 3 you will need new springs/retainers another $300

Tex sent me this a while ago
"without having to change out head components, and sticking with stock turbo, your best bet is either the crower s1 (which is brian crower s2's) or the crane 12's. both are great, but the crowers have more lift which makes more power. the lope shoudl be the same between the two, which is very mild, but power, especially up in the higher rpm's is pretty darn good"

You do not need to change springs/retainers with the BC stage2's. Its a good idea to replace the springs but not really needed. This is from what I heard, someone may have a more fact answer though.

Eh... how hard is it to actually INSTALL THEM? Less than an hour. Then you'll have to worry about degreeing them, but if you've done that before it takes no time at all.

WOOOOOO, uhuh, sorry I must disagree. Again I haven't done mine yet so I will put that out there. Waiting on my Cam gears.

BUT, everyone I talked with if you've done it before it's about 6 hours. Plan 10 hours for 1st time. Not that I believe dealer time, they know many short cuts but they have it listed as 5 hours.

You have to disconnect the exhaust, all MM, remove PS pump, alt belt, drop engine, remove damper, all that is about 2 hours.

It's about a 7 on 1-10 in difficultly, just time consuming. Since you will need to adjust them with dyno time you won't need to degree the #1 cylinder to get to TDC

If you haven't done it, don't try to say you know how long it takes . Cutting the top half of the timing belt cover off will save you from having to really remove anything. Just have a friend help hold the gears in place so that you don't need to re-adjust the belt when removing the cam and save yourself all of the trouble of dropping the mounts to remove the timing belt cover.

The thing is I did clarify, I haven't done it!! That doesn't mean I can't gauge time, been wrenching for years.

OK yes if you aren't replacing the cam gears... but why put in cams with out changing the gears, waste of time.

If it took you an hour your a great wrencher. My whole point is make sure you know the procedure for all this and do it right the 1st time as it could be costly if mistakes are made.

When i do mine, with gears, springs and retainers...I plan on it taking no longer than 3-4 hours with my buddy and me doing it...We are going to be doing it in my garage and will be doing it friday night and into saturday. I may take longer or it maybe shorter...depends on how much we drink..
