I have an 03' stage 2 car, ported tb, exsaust mani, 3in o2, 3in dp(mpx all the way back), safc neo, cai. So i will be able to tune the car after the cam install, stock turbo(e2)? Will it be worth it? what gains? Thanks
This topic has been discussed NUMEROUS times in the past.
The consensus has pretty much agreed that legitimate cams are the way to go. 2.0l cams will yield some increase in power but only when tuned; however, the labor involved is not worth what the cams actually do.
The exhaust cam is the only one that actually does anything, and it's also the cam that will see the most amount of tuning time. The intake cam is not beneficial at all, hence the reason some have only swapped the exhaust cam.
All-in-all, for the labor involved, I'd say it's not really worth it unless you're bored, doing the labor yourself and can knock the swap out in 4-6 hours. Expect a few hours of tuning time on a dyno, too. I saw a significant decrease of power on the dyno with one intake degree change, and then a moderate increase with a degree change the other way. They're very picky.
Money and time is better spent elsewhere, because consider the $200+ of cam gears, too. If you plan on installing them without cam gears do not even bother because at 0/0 you'll lose power despite the feeling your butt-dyno gives you.
What are you looking to get out of the car? Do you have a stock turbo or an E2 turbo? Your original post is kinda' ambiguous. What exact are ALL of your mods that you have on now?
Sorry for miss leading u, I have a stock turbo, trying to go with an e2. I have a S2, ported tb, ported ex mani, 3in. o2 housing. Full MPX 3in. ex., I have a safc neo, tach driver,3.0 bar tip, bypassed ecu boost agp wga. cai. poly motor mounts(all 3). was an 03' motor and trans, now 04' motor and trans. So all im lacking is an afr guage, already have cam gears and 2.0 cams. I love the camming sound its great but I would like to make at least a little bit more power out of the car. I would like to get 340-350 out of it to the wheels after e2 cams and tuned. Its more for the sound but if it will help out a little bit with an e2 than I will do it.
Fischy,
What kind of cams can I get for $100? That would work well? also what about adjusting the timing? Im just a bit curious? emissions in texas are a bit easier.
Well im wanting to go e2, I knew the stock turbo cant do it, I think max out around 300 right? and thats beating the hell out of it. lol I know a bit about the cars but about camming it I need advice? The 2.0 swap wont take me but 4 hours or so, I have the ability, tools, and shop to do it in so im not worried about the time factor. Should I tune everything first then do the cams? Or put it together then tune?

So basically you're looking for a loping sound? If you wanted a car that loped you should have gone the pushrod V8 route and tossed in a big cam, lol. Lope on these motors isn't a good thing.
I've heard that before, and I have had my share of v8's cammed. I got tired of something that took alot of money to drive to the track spend more money at the track on gas, then even more to get home. I love my srt4, So would u advise selling the gears, and cams which havent even come out of the box and get what??? Im getting my afr guage, have all of the air mods, except porting the intake and head. im stage 2? have the agp wga, what would be the next step to go for power??? im pretty limited at this point huh? no nitrious either. if u have any ideas let me know all i have is at the in the other post above. any advice would be great. If u want another list of everything I will post it again.

He was saying that for $100 more you could keep your stock gears & have a better cam. That would put it at around $300, I haven't shopped for cams but, I thought that they were more than that.
you really are better off spending the extra money on some legit cams.
and i wouldnt tune anything until the cams are in, no sense in doing the same thing twice.

You aren't going to get a great increase in sound out of 2.0l cams. If you want a nice cam sound you will need bigger cams and some tuning.
If you decide to go the cam route down the road then hold on to the gears. What gears are they? If they're 1st gen Fidanzas then get rid of those, too.
