I noticed a computer code, -74, that comes up when I turn the key to accessory. The code is located below the speedometer and there is a small wrench symbol associated with the computer code. My guess is that it is probably something minor otherwise I would get a warning light..but why take the chance if it something that could go from bad to worse and cost me more money to fix?
I did a Google search and came up with Chrysler codes, but they were all longer than a two digit code.
I called the Chrysler Service Department and all the tech had to say was that he could not release the meaning of the code over the phone and recommended I take the car in. I don't think it is right of the Service Department to force me to come in everytime I get a new error code.
Does anyone know where I can get a list of the codes? I ask this because I really need to know if this is a critical code where if I drive the car any further I could do damage to the car or if it is something minor where driving the car will cause no damage and I can take the car in when it is convenient.
They may have the info. They will also connect a remote code reader to your obd port to read it.I'll try a search to see what I come up with in the meantime.
OBDII codes at various levels are "generic" and not car specific... They are standard. But, they may "branch" to more car specific items at some numeric point on a vendor or car model basis. But, they try to keep them standard. Here's a list from the Norcal board. Take a look at it to see if it matches up with your code. Keep a bookmark there since it may help down the line. See if 74 comes up as anything important and take it to the dealer and get it fixed..... If you have the super-duper warranty, they give you a loaner car for free when it's in for work.....
put in "*n-o-r-c-a-l-s-r-t-4" where the *** are. they filter it out to prevent cross-posting for some reason. Even had to put dashes into it so that they don't filter that too. Take the dashes out.

How many miles do you have the car? Look at your owners manual the single wrench is service A double wrench is service B. Maybe its time for your oil change.

I wouldn't think the service indicator for a minor thing would throw a code. I could be wrong though.... We just got our manual since it was missing from the car at purchase time.....I'm still plodding through it a few pages a day.
I went into the dealer and he told me it means the car is due for service. For some reason the internal clock and the indicator were not syncronized. The indicator was telling me I was due for my 7000 mile checkup when my odometer was only showing 400+ miles. My car was sitting on the lot for over a year before I purchased the car so that may have caused the problem
So the dealer reset the service indicator back to zero by holding down the odometer button and switching the ignition key off and on a few times.
Apparently this is a counter that counts down from 7000 and if I go below zero, the number goes negative indicating that I have gone past the 7000 mile servicing.
Hey, that's good to know anyway.... Knowledge is knowledge. Our car was on the lot for a year too so it may have the same issue if they took off the battery cable or another internal battery weakened. I think there is something in the service manual that talks about that 7000 mile service reset ... I will have to go check and "highlight" that part.
