Hopefully this how-to is in the works, I might be doing this as well in the very near future.. Might as well do it if I'm replacing the head gasket anyway.

Yep the How to is in the works i may need a few weeks because i work all day and by the time i get home its kinda dark I knocked out the bulk of it this past weekend though. I guess the life of your belt all depends on the abuse because my car only has about 35k on it but several mods. I dont really think its the belt for mine as much as the tensioner. it seemed right before the problem there was a loud screeching like the tensioner or the other pulley seized up and the belt was just being pulled along by the force of the motor. then the belt started slapping on the top of the timing belt cover. I just had new rod bearings put in and a new clutch and all types of crap now this. Its ok she's worth it. I will post How To as soon as i can. like every one said it is very time consuming but with patience and a manuel its been a piece of cake so far.

On my crx I took a bar of soap what ever kind you want and rubbed it on the outside of the belt not the part that has teeth the smooth side so I could get rid of that rubber on metal squal you might be hearing. It worked for like 2years or you can go buy some belt dressing either way itll go away but the soap thing smells way better even after a few months. You can always take the upper timing belt cover off just to take a peak. All I did was identify where the noise was coming from. I heard the knocking and I just listened real carefully and i felt the timing belt cover to discover a realy hard knocking. After that I knew what had to be done. I had to take it apart to see what was worng but I went as far a removing the top timing belt cover but there was no sign of damage to the belt it self but it could have stretched from being pulled with a little bit of resistance. In my case my timing was screwed up and there wasnt any damage to the belt so something had to cause it. You can take it as far as your want but the root of the problem hasnt surfaced just yet.

you know what really gets to you is when you have a friend help you with the belt and he sets the intake cam 1 tooth above the exhaust. about 7 degrees. so when my car starts its loping really hard then i see its that far off so i have to take off that bracket again and raise the motor to adjust the timing belt again. i did that head how to to make it easier on everyone. i plan on trying to put a video on setting the proper timing

LOL i dont mean to laugh but thats pretty funny. I'm sure it wasnt funny then but now I bet you give him lots of bs about it. I'll try to get the best pics and angles of the proper timimg as I can so we can have a how to so those looking for it would feel a little more comfortable about the job ahead of them. Just having your input and everyone elses ive been able to attack with no hesitation. A timing Video though, I'm sure will be much appreciated.

thats not the last of that. well before that he put my cam magnet in upside down becasue i had crane cams. so when i started my car it sounded like i lost two cylinders lol. and the idle went from 400rpms to 1600 rpms lol. so i gave him b.s on that. then he messed up the timing again. haha. so yea the vid i will include removing parts and getting timing right.

I was thinking about selling my car but I just couldnt do it. In the last few months have been mayhem trying to get everything fixed from clutch to rod bearings and now the timing belt. all pretty costly repairs but oh well shes a keeper

Default little bit of help please

I'm still in the process of making the how to and after going through changing the belt it really isnt hard at all its just tedious. So I finished it up and nothing, no start but im getting a strong gas smell and a little smoke from the tail pipe and i pulled the plugs and some more smoke out of there. Could it be that I just messed up the timing on the cams. the two lines where perfectly straigh with each other and the timing mark on the harmonic balancer was even with the mark on the block. any suggestions if anything ill take another stab at it and make an even better how to. I also had a code u110c

its definetely worth saving the money considering you can get a gates racing belt for 60 bucks and do it yourself. This will be my first real contribution to the forum so i want it right.

It's my understanding that the intake mark should be 1/2 a tooth above the exhaust?? That's how I have mine and it runs, it's just got a nasty lob to it.. So who knows.. Maybe it's just a bit too much.

According to the service manual that I just looked at the marks should line up.. UGH looks like I'm going in again.. :/
