for shits? lets do the math here, shall we? 2.4 swaps in 1st gen neons are dead easy(have 1 done myself, working on a 2nd) my 1st gen weighs in at 2200lbs...roughly 600lbs lighter than an SRT4, I just replaced my previous 2.4 turbo this weekend in my '98 with a true SRT4 motor, all it all I would say stock SRT for swapped 98, the 98 will be quicker just because of the virtue of being 600lbs lighter, not to mention its a coupe(which I for one like better) now all that aside, no, the heads are not the same, the SOHC heads are completely different, and while the early DOHC head is really similar to the SRT 4 head, there are some major differences 1. Port shape....the SRT head is a revised version of the older DOHC head but flows somewhat better 2.One oil return hole is different between the two heads 3.the intake manifold bolt pattern is different, other than that...yeah, they are pretty much the same, yes your turbo will bolt up to the older DOHC head(not to the SOHC version though) the ports on the manifold will not match though(some minor porting of the exhaust manifold ports is a good idea, but not strictly mandatory if you dont mind a lot of turbulence before the turbo, not to mention possible exhaust leaks) if you have a SOHC you would have to to buy a DOHC to SOHC adapter plate before bolting the turbo up

easier to do it this way...buy a pre 2002 2.4L from a strats/caravan, etc, swap in the SRT internals and swap that 2.4 into the 97, this is a cheaper more powerful way rather than building the 2.0,not to mention the pre 02 2.4 can run off your stock 2.0L DOHC computer. and forget this forged crank BS, chrysler builds real cranks...the stock 2.0L crank can take 500HP at least, the stock 2.4 crank can take 1100 or so before experiencing flex
