Default Next Engine Mod - Head or Bottom End?

Over the winter I am trying to decide my next big mod. I will be building the bottom end, but wondering if I should do the head work first and see what kind of performance I can get. I know I am already pushing things with my current power levels, but seems to be holding up ok.

If I went with head work, do I have to do the whole shabaam or can I just have a local guy I know do port work, and maybe just change the springs / retainers / cams? Most guys will say BC3's or crane 18's and straight up is best, so maybe i wouldn't even get gears?

Right now I am around 450whp and about 27-28psi. I think with head work and cams I can probably pick up 20whp pretty easily.

Only mods that matter...AGP D55 turbo, ported stock intake manny, Mpx 62mm TB.

Discuss.

You are making plenty of power already you can get some head later. Just beef up that bottom end or you will be playing musical motors soon.

I did the head/cam first and i kick myself every day for it, by the time I can afford the bottom end my head will need a refresher and I have never been able to take full advantage of the power potential of the upper half combo

do the bottom and do it well, cause cams and head will need 8k+ rpm any way

huh? You have to buy adjustable cam gears when you put aftermarket cams in the car. Otherwise you will be wasting that money and time. There is no off the shelf set of cams that are made perfectly for you D55 set up to be dropped in and ready to go. It doesnt work that way.

I would do the bottom end for sure.

The MPx piston and rod combo is pretty nice as well.

I was in the same scenario. I couldn't decide for the life of me what I wanted to do first so I decided to do both

DCR race head, SMIM, manley rods, cp pistons, strap kit, etc. etc.
