I thought 3rd gear was the best for 1/1. why did they do a dyno in 4th gear? I call bullshit.
any explanation?
Actually, 4th gear is much closer to a 1:1 ratio than 3rd gear. If anything, an underdriven gear (3rd being underdriven) would create inflated dyno numbers as opposed to an overdriven gear (4th being overdriven).
Here are the gear ratios straight from the service manual:
And how can you call bullshit? Look around for my posts! Ask Nemo for crying out loud! I'm currently having him getting my rods built and he has a set of pistons at his shop ready to ship out, all for a build I'm currently working on! I've got so much shit lying around in my room that needs to be installed in the car, including suspension parts, transmission parts, and engine parts...all of which are going into the car at the same time!
Look at a year ago when I put down 609 whp corrected, was on a stock bottom end at that time as well!
Ask Thesleeper on here! He's a close friend who knows my car. We've been friends since we were both practically stock!
Cortney Green (you'll know who he is if you have ever followed NHRA SFWD), who is local to me, would vouch for the stock bottom end, since he tuned it for me the first time I dyno'd at 609 whp!
Chuck thats great. Ive been telling people that the stock bottom end is hella strong in that car and you have proven me right. your AFR is beautiful man. Well you seem to have done your home work really well. Based on what I know that bottom it will handle 7500 rmp after that problems. as long as your EGT's and AFR's are in check you wont blow up.. who tunned your car? Congrats!!!
I have been doing the tuning on it for just over a year, now!
And thanks for the congrats! It may have been able to pull those kind of numbers on the stock bottom end, but I doubt it will last all too long that way...LOL! Just can't wait to get the built motor in there!
You must be joking, right? 3rd gear is underdriven, 4th is overdriven. If anything, a car will dyno higher in an underdriven gear than an overdriven gear.
And yes, the bottom end is stock. Look through all of my posts and try to find one that mentions a bottom end build. I am VERY active on these forums, so you'll have lots to search through!
I went from a bolt-on S3 w/toys setup running 11.63 as my best time with that setup, straight to an AMS37R turbo kit that I ran on the S3 fueling/pcm system at 15 psi for a short while before upgrading to an EMS and a custom fuel system.
Never once has the bottom end of this motor been cracked open! Stock bearings, stock pistons, stock rods, stock oil pump! Right around 47,000 miles on the clock!
Otherwise, why would I have stopped at 32 PSI with this turbo, when it clearly has potential to go further? I know there is a limit to how far I can push the stock bottom end, an I'd rather not find that limit if I don't have to! Hence the reason I stopped cranking the boost up!
I have enough injector and fuel flow volume to go up at least another 4 PSI(injector duty was at 82% peak), and a built HEAD (don't confuse that with the bottom end) that can handle rpms well in excess of 7200 rpm, so why wouldn't I have brought it up to around 8k rpm?
Fact is, the bottom end is stock! The only thing that makes that so unbelievable is the fact that nobody on here has ever heard of a factory shortblock lasting beyond the mid 500 HP mark. That doesn't mean it can't happen! I could have possibly gone and turned the boost up another psi and made another 20 HP, but I figured, why roll the dice? I went to the dyno with a goal in mind, and that was to hit at least 600 whp UNCORRECTED! That goal was accomplished and that's all I cared to do!
dont get me wrog bro I just found it odd. I ve been herer from 2003. I got an 03 srt with 04 axls and to name others. its just it stricks me as odd to pull a dyno at 4th gear . you made your point so dont be a bitch. I love all the make dynamic innovations to the cars that we own.
with love Ghost,
PS... I only reason i make comments to such because I only Know Different

You come into my thread and call b.s. on a perfectly legit car that you obviously know nothing about, and I'm the bitch...

Its not that big of an argument. [i] thought 3rd gear was the closest 1to1 ratio, but i was wrong. get over it. Don't get all hyped up either. Cause i don't smoke pot!....,.

So I guess one is to understand that if they get a point across to you, they automatically become a bitch? Sounds like a case of poor self esteem on your end.
Oh, and I guess there's a reason you've been banned from this site a time or two...you are a tool!

props on the stock bottom end pull, it gives me hope because i have everything except the bottom end and a good turbo ...lol... and i was worried about 500+ and 7k red line
i know you used a gt37r do you know what size the turbine and what the A/R is on that ?
do you worry about cylinder wash down with e-85, and do you recommend any top end lube mix with the alcohol, does the e-85 hurt your eyes while staging ?

Amazing numbers and thank you! Im putting together my t04z build (my understanding to be the same or nearly the same as the 37r) and was nervous as to what the car would do power wise. Do you by chance have a medium boost number from the dyno? like 22 ps? Im building the car to run on 93 and am shooting for 560hp or so. Also, didnt get the specs of your turbo, is this a t4? Mines a t3, .70 cold, .82 hot.
