Default Installing NGK 4306s, need a special tool?

Hey all,

I just purchased a set of NGK 4306s (LZTR5A-13, 2 steps colder than stock) and I heard on this thread that in order to install them, you either need special wires or a special tool from sparkplugs.com. I am also buying the MSD 8.5 Super Conductor spark plug wires to use, so I am going to need to get the special tool.

Does anyone know what this tool is called or what it looks like? I looked on sparkplugs.com, but since no on mentioned what the tool is called, I could not find anything in the tool section since I really didnt know what I was looking for (im a newbie at this stuff, so I really have no idea what any of those tools and hardware they have do). If anyone could tell me what the to is, would appreciate it.

you don't need a "special tool", just a standard spark plug socket. I don't remember the size, I'm sure someone else can chime in on that....

EDIT: It's actually 5/8" spark plug socket (16mm).

HOW-TO: Change Spark Plugs

actually those are the same heat range as factory. In the part number the number after the "R" indicates the heat range. in this case 5. the higher the number the colder the plug. we usually run a 6.

if you look under the hood, on the sticker where it shows the vacuum line setup, there are two options for sparkplugs. Champions and NGK. The 4306's are what are on the sticker. I think they are the stockers.

soul, i have one of the first 03's. the only one listed is the champions. but according to the last ngk catalog, the direct replacement was not the 4306. somthing might have changed, either through dodge or ngk, but thats how it was in the past. thats why im asking for clarification now.

nick, i know that the 5 is hot, but that doesnt mean that its hotter or the same as stock...infact, i thought that the s3 instructions said to go with a step colder plug with the listing to run the 4306's

Okie no problem. Thanks for the help. They are 1 step colder not 2.. not sure why I said 2. Just got them in today, got to buy a torque wrench though.. heard you are supposed to torque them down to 13lbs. Of course, there is poor man methods which is also described under the same thread.. I am not very knowledgable on messing with cars.. chances are I would mess it up even if I read directions :P
